I am frequently reminded how prevalent and main stream racism is in this country
Rep. King's comment about how Obama favors white people is one such reminder, as is the constant low roar of birtherism and the new ad out by some doofus of a repuke about taking up arms against Obama.

Since the election there has been a steady stream of this shit.

Depressing as hell.

1. Racism is alive and well in America.
No matter how many times the MSM wonders if 'we're past all that' with the election of Barack Obama. It's really shameful.

2. Racism is just a part of it
This country is turning into a country of hate.

This crosses all the lines. Race, religion, political, economic, sex, everything.
This country is filled with fear and that turns to anger and hate.

6. Exactly--and lately, it's become acceptable to publicly demonstrate
that hate--and the public is becoming inured to it.

3. Actually, Rep. King said that Obama favors black people by default
This is the 21st Century? Post-racial--I don't think so. :eyes:

4. And oddly, the racism is Obama's fault
He caused it by being elected. Now there is some logic for you.

5. How right you are, & its scary
I just deleted my- right wing step -sister of my face book, I got so irritated at her posting. They were mean spirited and so racial. She professes to be a Christan and patriot, I finally said my piece and deleted her, she'll just keep sending the e-mails, can't and won't deal with it anymore!

8. What do you expect?
White people once owned black people in this country and blacks lived under a system of apartheid up into the 1970 and aspects of that still exist.

10. Look on the bright side.
We went from slavery, to Jim Crow, to electing a black man as president. If someone had predicted in the 60s that in less than 50 years we would have a black president, who would win 29 states including Virginia and North Carolina, people would have been skeptical to say the least.

Also I take comfort that my kids have friends of all races and I have never heard any of them making a racist comment, ever. I hope this bodes well for the future in this country. (Unfortunately I am still working on "that's so gay" which for some reason many kids seem to think is quite acceptable).
