BREAKING: 11 GOP CONGRESSMEN MEET WITH BUSH, ROVE, GATES, RICE....
Edited on Wed May-09-07 07:09 PM by DeepModem Mom
and Snow in "candid" meeting at the WH on Iraq. From NBC News, on-air.

Thanks to CatWoman, here's VIDEO: http://video.msn.com/v/us/msnbc.htm?f=00&g=78735bc2-8992-4359-a04a-b12466a71d79&p=hotvideo_m_edpicks&t=c24&rf=http://www.msnbc.msn.com/&fg=

One Congressman said, "My district is preparing for defeat." "No longer any credibility from the White House."

Yesterday's meeting was led by Reps. Charlie Dent (R., Pa.) and Mark Kirk (R., Il.).

On edit: Keith Olbermann is calling this "an extraordinary meeting," and is wondering if we'll see evidence that Bush "got the message."

President, especially a Democratic President".

Also said the whole point of The Big Dick going over to Iraq was to tell the Iraqi parliament to delay their vacations.

This is all part of the plan. Bush knows he's lost everything and will now try to play the victim.

This is bullshit, pure and simple. Candid... my Aunt Fanny. Those blood-drinking Gooper Ghouls couldn't be "candid" if their toupees were on fire.

Mark my words...this is an orchestrated con-job.

Petraeus is saying this is a 10 to 15 year effort he's engaged in, and I'm guessing there is about 3 percent of the public that would support that.

67. if you do, DO NOT BUY
MS-ORFICE. a waste of money.

for both your mac side AND your windoze side, there is a free alternative that I use religiously for work (solo practice) and have never had a problem.

Open Office is a freeware office suite that reads, writes, runs every other document, spreadsheet, etc, clean and fast. the mac version can be found at neooffice.com

I highly recommend it.

80. if you wanna spend (waste) $350+ on MSORFICE for the mac
go ahead.

instead, go here
http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php

and hit downloads. If you have an intel chip, download the intel program. Power PC is fully supported too.

you have a good selection of lanugages, too.

the only ONLY thing that I don't use on the neooffice is their envelope control. It works fine, in fact, it has too many choices, so I use easy envelope on my dahsboard which is just great. PM me if you want more infor.

17. Calm down...
...They're merely consulting the administration about ShrubCo's intransigent position on the war, pointing out public opinion polls and doing what they think is in the party's best interests, perhaps hoping to circumvent the administration's collective ego. Chances are they'll be rebuffed politely.

Should they become more dogged, they will see a "more curt" side to ShrubCo.

23. I don't think it's part of any party "plan"...
...other than the plan by these Congressional members to try and save some face in the wake of post-veto polls that show the GOP losing more ground since last November's election. I think they likely know they're not going to make much headway with this gang but are hoping to make some impact.

But when you think about the trio of buttheads they're about to face in Dubya, Dick and Karl, it would be surprising if they had any effect at all. I would expect those three to either try placating the visitors and doing what they want anyway, or attempt intimidation.

This is getting good.

They obviously know something WE don't. Namely, the TRUE state of the polls...

Which show complete and utter defeat of the Repugs. They know that vote-rigging can only work if there is a small margin of difference. If it's a BURIAL, then it won't work.

I sense a complete melt-down.

24. This is disgusting, pathetic, immoral
For years these "men" have cheerlead their "president" as more and more of our soldiers die. Even when the writing was on the wall that no weapons of mass destruction would ever be found, they cheered. What caused this sudden outburst of "candor" was anything but concern for the plight of our soldiers. It was venal concern for their own jobs. Only that spur them to any kind of action, and it was pathetic action at that. I'm disgusted.:puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

57. You know, there are days when I see how a group could
politically try to say, "Okay, we have to give Petraeus a chance to do this, or else the ugly neocons will accuse us for eternity of losing the war."
And then I remember that an average of 3 or 4 soldiers are dying every day to support this mess that will NEVER get better, and I EASILY come to the conclusion that it has to stop. NOW.

I'm no more moral than anyone else, IMO. I haven't been graced which some unique upbringing or training in philosophy courses, just some critical thinking skills that the below-average person may not possess. It's not that difficult. But they won't do it. Shame on them.

38. Political theater, nothing more. These GOP politicians need to position
themselves as having 'attempted to reason with the stubborn president'. They're trying to distance themselves from the sinking Bush Administration ahead of the elections.

They will never demand honesty or accountability, because they know very well that their party will be extinct the moment GOP election fraud is rooted out. They need the corrupt GOP machinery, but they also need some degree of political cover. Look for this scenario to be repeated over and over, as Bush is discarded to save the GOP.

56. Interesting that at the same time, Cheney is in Baghdad....
telling the Iraqis that time is running out.

If the Iraqi leaders take two months off for vacation as planned, the SHIT's REALLY GONNA HIT THE FAN.

This is all because of the elections last year. It meant everything to take over congress.

60. "Bush doesn't want to leave this war in the hands of another president...
...particularly a Democratic president." per Timmeh.

Eh, Tim, that's exactly what he wants to do. He's trying to run out the clock so someone else can be blamed for his failures.

But go ahead and keep echoing the WH talking points and losing any credibility you had

61. Bush doesn't want to pass this off to the next President?
My guess is that he's seen what his legacy will be and wants to change that.

He's not interested in saving lives, or saving Iraq but to saving his ass.

66. Some of what Bush leaves the next President.
Incomplete list.

1. The War on Terror, intergenerational I believe.

2. Huge government deficits. Didn't President Clinton turn over a surplus?

3. Iraq War debt. Someone is going to have to pick up the check, might as well be the next President.

High oil prices, devalued dollar, trade deficit, international regard for the U.S.A. sinking lower by the day and the list goes on.......

So Mr. Russert, with all that, exactly why is it that Bush doesn't want to leave the Iraq War to the next President?

http://www.opednews.com/articles/genera_rob_kall_070509_11_republican_cogres.htm

this link has a transcript up w/russert from thinkprogress--
"RUSSERT: One congressman said, “How can our sons and daughters spill their blood while the Iraqi government goes on vacation?” The president responded, “The vice president is over there to tell them, do not go on vacation.”

unfucking real. well, if they want a vacation--I'M SURE OUR TROOPS DO TOO! WE'LL JUST TAKE OUR TOYS AND GO HOME!

70. Russert's report on this was vomit inducing

his hyperventilating while he was reporting this made it look like the 11 congressmen were coming for him! I hate that Time Russert now, what a complete tool. At least FOX News doesn't even pretend they're not in bed with the White House.

Take Russert Off the Air - I hope he comes up with a sex tape or something ;)

75. Mark Kirk (R - Scared Shitless)
I love this. Just a couple days ago, I got an email from Dan Seals...who barely lost to Kirk last year and he's all set to run again and already has put a team in place that he didn't have until the final days of the '06 election. Kirk's district has been trending Democratic for years and he's only won by playing a "moderate"...and now that game won't work.

Kirk's concern here isn't to end this invasion, it's to save his own bacon. If this occupation is still going on in Nov. '08, Kirk knows he's toast...and there's a lot of us in and around his district to make sure that happens.

Dan's page is up and running at:

http://www.dansealsforcongress.com/

It's ironic to see the GOOP list of "districts of opportunity" in '08 and none are listed in Illinois. Kirk and RoScum are going down...let's all work to make it happen.

Cheers...

85. Rumor Has It...
Gym Teach Denny wants out, but the party cupboard is bare. Unfortunately the party in that area still is a backwater operation and the focus will be on the 10th and 6th.

My hopes are that there's an indictment with the fat ass' name on it in the near future.

Cheers...

Including our country. I think this is real fear, and will grow, in the coming months, these assholes aren't there to serve the interests of the American People, but to save their stinking fucking hides.
It's too late though, what was started last year will be finished next year, the pukes will be jumping ship in droves, * is not going to change, he can't, he is a flawed adolescent peter fucking pan who will never grow up or admit that he's just a lump of shit.

The only thing Bush has ever excelled at. Being a stubborn jerk and saying fuck you to the world. Will we ever recover from a punk frat asshole being president? Please advise.

88. GOP Congressman Dent
This "intervention" is being led by Charlie Dent, who is the 2 term GOP Congressman from the Lehigh Valley of eastern PA. This would only be the second major time he tried to provide leadership on an issue - the first was against internet gambling.

Dent only won re-election by a few points against an unknown Dem opponent who had no money, and who wasn't that well-liked by the few people who knew him. Dent actually had no Dem opponent for much of 2006 - the guy was a last minute write-in. Dent has a popular personality and a moderate reputation, but fears that the war and the anti-GOP mood will put him underwater against a real opponent in 2008.
