Blackwater’s Prince Moving to the Emirates?

Jeremy Scahill reports that the reclusive Blackwater owner, Erik Prince, has travel plans on his horizon.



The Blackwater/Erik Prince saga took yet another dramatic turn last week, when Prince abruptly announced that he was putting his company up for sale. While Prince has not personally been charged with any crimes, federal investigators and several Congressional committees clearly have his company and inner circle in their sights. The Nation learned of Prince’s alleged plans to move to the UAE from three separate sources. One Blackwater source told The Nation that Prince intends to sell his company quickly, saying the “sale is going to be a fast move within a couple of months.”

The report of a move to Dubai makes a lot of sense in context. Prince may be trying to liquidate major holdings so he can move his money offshore, too, in advance of possible claims by victims of Blackwater violence. I discuss the legal issues, including extradition, deeper into Scahill’s article.

Maybe things are closing in on the criminal activities and malpractices of the Bush administration and by extension the BFEE. One can hope. If we can't prosecute them here, then at least maybe we can get them out of our country as a second best. Maybe they are the first domino to fall as well.

BTW, Blackwater was VERY friendly with Jordan... notorious for its torture site...and right next door to Dubai,if I'm not mistaken.

Halliburton's Dubai Move Sparks Outcry
(CBS/AP) U.S. oil services firm Halliburton Co. is shifting its corporate headquarters and chief executive from Houston to Dubai in a move that immediately sparked criticism from U.S. members of Congress.

Halliburton Chief Executive Dave Lesar, speaking at an energy conference in nearby Bahrain, said he will relocate to Dubai from Texas to oversee Halliburton's intensified focus on business in the Mideast and energy-hungry Asia, home to some of the world's most important oil and gas markets.

The boss of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), the world's biggest sovereign wealth fund, has been found dead in Morocco.

KABUL -- A blizzard of bank notes is flying out of Afghanistan -- often in full view of customs officers at the Kabul airport -- as part of a cash exodus that is confounding U.S. officials and raising concerns about the money's origin.

The cash, estimated to total well over $1 billion a year, flows mostly to the Persian Gulf emirate of Dubai, where many wealthy Afghans now park their families and funds, according to U.S. and Afghan officials. So long as departing cash is declared at the airport here, its transfer is legal.

Last month, a well-dressed Afghan man en route to Dubai was found carrying three briefcases stuffed with $3 million in U.S. currency and $2 million in Saudi currency, according to an American official who was present when the notes were counted. A few days later, the same man was back at the Kabul airport, en route to Dubai again, with about $5 million in U.S. and Saudi bank notes.

Efforts to figure out just how much money is leaving Afghanistan and why have been hampered by a lack of cooperation from Dubai, complained Afghan and U.S. officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Dubai's financial problems, said a U.S. official, had left the emirate eager for foreign cash, and "they don't seem to care where it comes from." Dubai authorities declined to comment.

The “Prince” dropped out of the US Naval Academy after three semesters. Then got (bought) a diploma at Hillsdale College (look up that one for a laugh).

Was accepted into USN Officer Candidate School in 1992 (didn’t find what month). Then he went through SEAL training and had time to serve in "Haiti, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean, as well as Bosnia".

His father died Mar 2 1995, and he quit the SEALs and the Navy. How convenient for him. What a freakin wannabe.

Just as the teabaggers started a rumor of President Obama's nationality, the same kind of innuendo could circulate in Dubai of Prince's Hebrew origins. Some say Eric Prince had a foreskin surgically attached.
