Cops bust woman, 74, for pouring mayo in book drop

Police in Idaho think they might have solved a yearlong condiment crime spree. Authorities said a 74-year-old Boise woman arrested after pouring mayonnaise in the Ada County library's book drop box is a person of interest in at least 10 other condiment-related crimes.

Joy L. Cassidy was picked up Sunday at the library, moments after police say she pulled through the outside drive-through and dumped a jar of mayo in the box designated for reading materials.

Cassidy was released from jail and faces a misdemeanor charge of malicious injury to property.

Boise police say Cassidy is under investigation for other cases of vandalism that started in May 2009. Library employees have reported finding books in the drop box covered in corn syrup and ketchup.

What was she afraid of, the books were going to retaliate?

When police took Cassidy into custody, they found a loaded handgun under the driver's seat of her car. She did not have a concealed weapons permit, so she was also charged with misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon.

I worked custodial jobs to get through college and I have seen a fair share of unexplainable disgusting acts and behaviors. I have seen and heard it often enough that I must conclude that this type of thing must somehow be a part of the human condition. But, every time I encounter such a story I always gotta ask myself; WTF is up with some folks?

Sometimes, Alzheimers and other conditions that mess with the brain can cause such behavior.

I am taking care of Mom with dementia. She was diagnosed with it at age of 79 and she's almost 81 now. Sometimes her behavior is strange so unlike her before dementia. Confused, hallucinations, loss of memory ... unable to do things she normally did like knitting, folding towels, washing dishes, etc.

We really are no different.

I told grandma to stop doing that.......that eventually it would KETCHUP to her. Now she's sure to be one of the first killed by one of those Sarah Palin government panels. Poor grams.

Entire library systems are being closed, others have had their hours and collections cut to the bone. She should be made to replace every single title she ruined. Public libraries are in a crisis situation in this country, and they are a VITAL part of a community.

Izzat a category on the police blotter now?
