Poll question: Obama will announce, how many NEW actions, tonight?
Edited on Tue Jun-15-10 06:31 PM by ShamelessHussy
regarding the Gusher in the Gulf?

What do you think they will be?

I am betting the 1 thing he does tonight is to actually take FULL charge of the containment and cleanup operation, which will include coordinating assistance to folks impacted by this ongoing catastrophe. of course this would need to be followed up with real change on the ground, sea, and air.

3. I was looking for "zero" and didn't see it.
It's good to keep expectations low; then you can be pleasantly surprised. I'm not counting "researching," "action team," "organizing a group of independent experts" and so on, either.

4. It won't matter.
Seriously, it won't matter. The Repugs will continue to politicize this disaster, just like they did 9/11. He,s either oo hands on or not hands on enough. He's either too emotional or not emotional enough. He's either too hard on BP or not hard on them enough.

It will be all about criticism from the other side of the aisle.

If he could wave a magic wand and fix this today, it wouldn't be good enough.

I hate that we have come to this. That a disaster of this proportion becomes a place to look for political advantage and talking points. The venom makes me sick and it does nothing to fix the situation. Nothing.

We are in deep shit, or oil, or just plain dumb-assed rhetoric. When I saw the first pics of that rig blowing up I thought to myself, "This cannot end well." And it won't.

8. true, it will not matter to what the political folk say, however, it will matter a great deal to
the REAL PEOPLE, and many other forms of LIFE, what action he does take, one way, or the other.

10. that's where Obama's leadership skills are supposed to come into play. no one said the job was easy.
no president enjoys 100% approval from both sides of the aisle. time to man-up and deal with it.

11. And what does that look like?
Bush 1 never went to Alaska for the Exxon Valdez crisis. I don't remember any kind of scrutiny on his involvement or lack thereof.

What does "man-up" entail? Please give me some specifics here. What is he supposed to say or do that will satisfy those who either hate him because he does too much, or hate him because he does too little?

12. you don't "satisfy" those who "hate" you -- you do your job and protect our oceans and people.

13. take full control of the containment, cleanup, and economic restoration
with an armada of boats on the water, and armies of men on shore, and the opening up of this disaster to the media, vs protecting BP's image.

to begin with, imho, would be a good start.

14. Ummm
The US Government does not have the technology to fix this. That's the reality of the situation. What an armada of boat is supposed to accomplish is beyond me.

Though I do agree that there needs to be a whole lot more media access regarding what is going on down in the Gulf.
