FEMA , the Coast Guard, and Homeland Security
Should FEMA and the Coast Guard be removed from the Homeland Security Department? I have heard a number of people state that FEMA and the Coast Guard were really good organizations when they were not a part of the Homeland Security Department. However, once they were put into the Homeland Security Department they both began to have problems.

In my opinion FEMA and the Coast Guard should be removed from the Homeland Security Department. It seems these organizations would perform better if they were allowed to operate independently. It seems that putting these organizations in the Homeland Security Department was a bad idea. So, what do others think?

1. Homeland security sounds so Nazi Germany
putting all of our defences under some political hack is not a good move, i did not think so at the time either.

3. To different departments or will they get their own secretary?
Secretary of the Coast Guard would be interesting but the Pentagon might have a fit.

There are pluses and minuses to putting these organizations into a number of different departments. IMO most having to do with interdepartmental relationships and budgeting rather than the efficiency by which each could do their designated jobs.
