Joe Lieberman: US government should control internet like Chinese government
Liebmerman has proposed the "Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act:"

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2010/06/20/lieberman-dismisses-concerns-over-internet-bill/

Lieberman said the Internet was “constantly being probed by other countries for weaknesses and that “we need the capacity for the president to say to an Internet service provider, ‘We’ve got to disconnect the American Internet from all traffic coming in from this country.’”

He cited China, which has long been criticized for its Internet censorship, as an example. “Right now, China can disconnect parts of its Internet in times of war. We need to be able to do that too.”

Please contact your Senators against this bill.

Internet service providers can respond to hackers and viruses.

They don't need the federal government ordering them to.

They especially don't need stupid orders like "disconnect the American Internet from all traffic coming in from this country."

1. Actually Joe, the U.S. government should control its politicians like the Chinese government does.
Your wrinkly ass would have been kicked decades ago.

3. I'm sorry, but Joe Lieberman caucuses with Democrats, just like Bernie Sanders
Your post may therefore be in violation of the rules as a:

"Inappropriate attacks against Democrats"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=8603151&mesg_id=8603151

I would suggest self-censoring until a moderator arrives to clear up this gray area. I will alert to see if we can get some clarification.

I am interested to know if it is a violation, though.

19. Lieberman ran as an independent against a Democratic nominee
Bernie Sanders ran in an election with no Democratic nominee and the endorsement of the Democratic Party. That distinction was made perfectly clear on DU in 2006.

For God's sake, we're talking about the Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee here in 2000!

26. I'm just telling you what the rules were in 2006
Advocating for Lieberman over Lamont in the general was against the rules on DU because Lamont was the Democratic nominee.

34. Traitor Joe is not a Democrat.
He is a sore loser who lost his primary and ran against the candidate that the Democrats in Conn. voted for. He campaigned with McCain and wants to give the President the same power over the internet that the Chinese have over the internet in China. Traitor Joe is due up in 2012 and I will donate to whoever is running against him.

4. there was a thread a few weeks ago about how the Chinese
government could pull down a slum and build new houses = no problems with all that pesky eminent domain.

The Chinese can also just start a train system - no issues.

This was admired.

so it's nice to see that at least some of the "conveniences" are not lauded.

14. the Chinese built dams
and flooded whole communities that had been living there for centuries. No problem. The magic of China. Seriously it's nice that they have nice new infrastructure, it's not so nice how they go about doing it.

I wonder if Joe knows you don't have to have your computer or computing system hooked up to the internet.

why stop there? Why not put a telescreen in everyone's house while you're at it? Oh, and then make people "disappear" in the middle of the night if they criticize the government?

He's an irrelevant douchebag trying to remain relevant.

31. China didn't create an ability to disconnect parts of their Internet for times of war,
they did it for times of peace, to control their own populace from being exposed to freedom of ideas and information, which the Communist Chinese government deemed a threat to their own autocratic power.

Thanks for the thread, Eric J in MN.
