McClellan/MacArthur/McChrystal
Edited on Tue Jun-22-10 10:08 AM by Seneca

The current president's headache is certainly a recurring pattern in U.S. history. All three generals are similar too - pompous megalomaniacs, and openly insubordinate and critical of their commander-in-chief. Let us hope McChrystal ends up with the same job security as his predecessors.

1. The word is INsubordinate
Had the generals in question conducted themselves properly as subordinates, there would have been no problems.

3. It was obviously a mistake
Sometimes people think one thing and type another. Although I am sure you are perfect and never do that.

4. That's why I pointed it out.

I appreciate when people quickly point out my mistakes in posts, too.

It allows me to edit the post correcting the error before the time limit runs out.

2. McCrystal is a Cheney holdover. Couldn't have expected anything less from the man.

5. A common thread
but probably irrelevant.

Lincoln civil war ends slavery.
Truman integrates the military
Obama first black President.

Interesting but ultimately irrelevant I think.

6. He should publically fire his ass...after the article come out in print.
"The general became increasingly belligerent toward Truman as he sought to overturn the President's limited war aims. In fact, MacArthur's conflicts with Truman had begun early in his command. He had criticized Truman's policy toward Formosa (Nationalist China, now Taiwan) in a well-publicized letter to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in August 1950. His alliance with the Republican Party also did not endear the general to the President. Nor did his personality. Imperious and self-righteous, MacArthur showed little respect for Truman's ability to wage war effectively."

McChrystal works for Obama not the other way around.

8. Lincoln
Lincoln pretty much said that McClellan could say anything he wanted about him so long as he won battles. McClellan didn't win battles and Lincoln finally canned him. McClellan also opined that the country needed a military dictatorship to win the war. Lincoln said that after McClellan had won the war, he (Lincoln) would risk the dictatorship.
