1. I think campaign finance reform - get the big money out of elections.
Without that, there will be no end to the amount of corruption and self-serving lawmaking that goes on in DC.

6. On that subject - Check out this article
Political Fundraising Imperatives are Why Filibuster Shenanigans Work
http://www.thewashingtonnote.com/archives/2010/06/political_fundr/

It's an excellent article about some of the problems created by Congressional fundraising activities. It talks about the history of Campaign Finance Reform and the problems created by interference by the Supreme Court. You might5 find some inspiration for further research there.

4. You might want to take a shot at the $$$ costs of the occupations and
the trillion dollar military budget in relation to what's (financially) happening in your area.

Glad to hear you're back!

5. My biggest issue is how insurance companies
Edited on Tue Jun-22-10 02:14 PM by Warpy
have been allowed to stonewall instead of setting up high risk insurance pools within 6 months the way we were promised. Now we get nothing until 2014, and that's only if the Republicans don't get back into office. If they do, we'll get nothing, at all.

Jobs are first and foremost on my mind for everyone else, along with enough of an unemployment extension to allow them to eat and have roofs over their heads until those jobs start to materialize. Social programs like unemployment insurance and social security are what's putting enough money into people's hands that we haven't gone into a full blown depression. Deficit hawks are wrong on this one and need to fade away until good times arrive again. Then we can work on the deficit.

All possibilities are predicated on cleaning the conservatives out of Congress, starting with the ones who are obviously bought and will stay bought, no matter what.

Good luck on your surgery, kiddo. I know I've sent you the sites to tell you what you need to know about the recovery period and that what you've got when you wake up for the first time is not nearly as good as what you'll end up with after a bit of rehab.

When's the op?

13. That's wonderful!
Broca's area is the tricky one to avoid, and that's where most of your speech is centered. Speech rehab just helps you to grow new wiring over time.

I've seen people with Broca's area completely disconnected who were able to speak, albeit slowly and deliberately, with good speech rehab. It just takes time to grow those new dendrites and reestablish those connections.

You'll get there!

7. golly, w8--give your beautiful brain a break from the vexing nonsense we're preoccupied with
I know it's against your busy nature, but I hope you have some soothing and "uplifting" things to think about (too) aside from the trivia and political crap. Get better soon, dear!

8. The clock is ticking on climate change.
More delay means more disasters and more deaths. The corporate press keep telling us that we can wait to pass a bil but there are serious consequences of delay.

9. Stimulus spending to benefit Main Street, not Wall Street
The stimulus spending to rescue the finance giants has worked wonderfully well, restoring most of the overrich to their pre-panic financial condition. Now, we're poised to spend a little money helping citizens instead of major corporateers. Spending on roads and bridges, schools and jobs. And lookit that! As if on cue, we have the deficit hawks, somnambulent through the past nine years, suddenly rousing from their torpor to insist that it's time to tighten America's belt! We can't, of course, cut military spending or really much of anything, except for perhaps . . . why look! It's social security! All those dedicated funds just sitting there, waiting to keep elderly people out of poverty, and damn little of it going into the coffers of people who can't spend the money they already have. Something Must Be Done.
