From today's Washington Post -http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/22/AR2010062200813.html

(snip)
Fire him.

That's what I wished for last year on MSNBC, when McChrystal publicly demanded more troops in Afghanistan before the President had made that decision. This is what I said then:

"McChrystal is way out of line. He should remember what happened between Truman and MacArthur, another 'Big Mac.' He's pushing his luck here, because Obama needs to be the Commander in Chief. That's what the Constitution says - Article II, Section 2, that's what it says. He's the boss, not McChrystal. McChrystal should have known better. He saw what happened , and I think history may repeat itself."

Leading Democrat calls for McChrystal's ouster, while others open to his dismissal

1. While I think the man is as wrongheaded as they come
and abrasive to boot, pissing off allies all over the place, I think he needs to get another star pinned on and a reassignment to an area where he's not in a position to do as much damage.

Military men like him are total bastards, but they're indispensable in an all out war. They're just bloody useless in the type of occupation where we're trying to win hearts and minds so we can get the hell out.

2. Even RWers are against him
I have perused the normal right-wing web sites - National Review, RedState, etc. -- and they are pretty much uniform in their condemnation of McChrystal. Some have said he should be fired, others have said he shouldn't be fired but severely reprimanded.

Nevertheless, they all believed that his actions constituted insubordination, and that military leaders can't do this sort of thing, no matter who the president (commander-in-chief) is. That was somewhat refreshing; at least we know the right-wing press doesn't support a militarization of our democracy.

We Need New Personnel AND New Policy
That policy is called "peace."

"Offense" is Often an Illusion
when you are talking about an irregular force with any public support. What are we going to accomplish in the next ten years that we couldn't or didn't accomplish in the first ten years?
