How does a military resignation work?
Will McCrystal be 100% free and clear (to speak his mind on Faux) minutes after his resignation/firing?

I have to assume the military has already thought about this and hopefully they have the power to shut his pie hole right-quick.

1. He has to go through an administrative process before being released from active duty.
Needless to say, it's the Govt, so it would take time to process him out, so he'd still be answerable to the CIC and Pentagon (not that that's ever stopped him before).

5. Any commander can request relief from his/her command position
and it is usually granted rapidly. With twenty or more years of active service, the individual will also submit a request for retirement from active duty. The Army can accept or reject the request and will establish a retirement date if accepted. The officer retains his/her commission and is subject to recall if the Secretary of the Army so desires.
