Some times I wonder why I still care...
I'm on disability, I have no children, my brother and sister have no children. There are a few step kids in the mix and that is one reason, but for the most part, I am not likely to live more than 20 years at best...

So why do I, or even more concise, why should I still care about what goes on politically in this country?

I have little stake in the future.

So why do i still care?

My mother once told me that my passion for politics scared her, that it would lead to no good for me.

She was right about that, I did get lead along by people who took advantage of my passions and use me and then tossed me aside.

Democrats did this to me and yet...

All indications point to me not giving a rats ass about what the future holds for people who come after me.

I know a lot of people who have a stake in the future that are around my age who don't.

so why do i still care?

What is wrong with me? Or would that be right with me?

I just think I care so much about this grand experiment we call America. It is messy and huge and there are more dips to the lowest common denominator than I care to think about and yet...

I just can't walk away for the time and effort I have invested. I just can't walk away, turn my back. I just can't.

I think that I know that if when I get my lung transplant, the first thing I will reach for in the recovery room will be the NYT to see what I have missed while I was under...

Some might say I am cursed but I look at it differently.

I feel blessed that I live in a country where people like me can still be engaged in the process.

What I fear most is that people like me may soon be precluded from participating.

1. I think it's hard-wired into all species
It's the survival instinct, whether it be your own personally, or that of your species.

I know, it sucks.

2. I ask myself the same thing all the time
Like, why should I care if there are any trees/forests left when I'm gone from this earth...

Why should I still care about a woman's right to choose even though, when faced with the dilemma of whether to or not to have an abortion myself years ago, I couldn't do it...and why now, after I'm too old to HAVE children, it still matters that women younger than myself have the right to choose...

I don't know.

I don't know why I still care, but I do.

Maybe there's no way to explain it, and maybe we're not supposed to know...

3. I could have written this. Feel the same.
But I have done a lot of thinking on this issue, and I have come to the conclusion that some of us just care. We care for the sake of caring, and the sake of all the people/animals/forests/water/air/everything. And that is not a bad thing. Participate as long as you can, and then fight like hell if they try to stop you. It is a myth that we have to do these right things for "our children and grandchildren".

6. Good post, I feel the same as you, the OP and others. I keep banging my
head against the wall, especially where I live, but I still keep going on... I'll be damn if I'm going to let them get the best of me.

5. You know why you care...
Because you are hard wired. And there are kids in the mix, even if they're not yours...

You were active politically, and that is also because you care.

And I know, without a doubt that you will never be precluded from participating. Nor will others like you...

We are blessed that people like you exist...

If you didn't, and all the others, we would be truly screwed...

And I know we aren't.....not yet.

Recommended.

13. Exactly

We have dissovled into a one party system

The Democratic Party that struggles with governance it has to do and the policy it wants to do.

and

The Republicans that participates in political masturbation.

17. It's both an easy choice and hard choice at the same time.
To me, I see the Dems as my best bet for getting the things I want done. At the same time, I realize that my choice of political parties will never get done what I want to see done.

I know I'm not alone on this, hence the Dem Party's troubles...

12. For me it goes beyond country.
In fact, "country" rarely enters into my thinking. It's a world thing.

Someone bust out some flowers for my world peace ways! ;)

Your fear is coming true even as you type.
One party is fascist, the other is not concerned with citizens that are not corporate persons.
We are no longer relevant to the system.
Nobody in power gives a rats ass about anything other than corporate donations.

I have less time on this globe than you and I still don't know why I care anymore, so I empathise, but thhe truth remains we no longer count -- period.

I've no 'stake in the future'...no spawn, and my mental...er...let's be polite and call them 'challenges' lead me to isolate way more than is actually good for me.

I don't really like people. They're loud, pushy, needy, greedy, self-centered, have little self-control, little desire in acquiring any, ignorant and don't care that they ARE ignorant... and they are mean to each other.

It's uncomfortable for me to be around them for long periods of time...they make my head jangle.

Still...they're MY people. My species. Not all of them are tantrum-throwing 2 yr-old children in adult bodies.
Some of them are just awesome and splendid and amazing and incredibly cool. :applause:
They give me hope for the future of my race (homo sapiens, in case you was wondering what I meant by the term) and it's THESE people...to most of whom (98%) I've no blood ties that are my 'posterity'.

Well, them- and those who go on four legs, fins, scales, and feathers (hopefully not all at once though :wow:)...they too are my posterity.
