Poll question: If you were a billionaire, would you run for office?
Edited on Wed Jun-23-10 07:29 AM by MrScorpio
Would you spend millions of your own money on your campaign?

Why?

1. Yes but not to wage war on the middle class
I'd do it because I've always wanted to but can't afford it.

3. Probably
If I was wealthy all of a sudden it would be because I won the Powerball. And since I won millions of dollars annually instead of nominally earning it, well I really would have to use at least some of it for the greater good.

I wouldn't take a dime in campaign contributions, but I would promise to not out-spend my opponent by more than 15%. I'd be the only candidate that truly owns everything to the voters and nothing to campaign contributors.

4. If it would allow me to make life better for less fortunate Americans?
I would, but for the right reasons (I certainly couldn't get elected otherwise ).

8. Nope, I'd bankroll a bunch of Progressive Dems ...
... who had been preparing to run since high school, so they'd have squeaky clean records and clear cut policy stances and were basically undefeatable. 6 mini-me's in various offices is better than the 1 original not making much of a dent somewhere.

9. Billionaires hire people for errands like running for office, holding office,
leaning on the other hired help in office

Billionaires have other things to do.

Now, if I was a billionaire, would I support candidates that gave the status quo-ians trouble? Oh, you betcha. And I would do something to add some liberal voices to MSM too.

10. Other....
...secure my family's economic future ($50M), then use the remaining $950M to establish a foundation to provide education/job skill to the poor.

I'll run for office when the devil is ice skating.

12. No, I would not run for office. I don't want my personal life and my
loved ones under that kind of scrutiny.

I'd use my money to make the world a better place, though.

13. Geez, if I were a billionaire I'd be desperate looking for ways to get rid of it
That kind of money scares me. What kind of life would you have with a billion dollars? Not saying I wouldn't keep a million or two though.
