It is even more depressing when an intelligent Pres. delivers pure propaganda
At least when GW Bush delivered the same idiotic reasons for the war in Afghanistan one could write it all off to evil stupidity and greed. It is much more difficult to hear the same BS reasons for perpetual war coming from Obama. The fact is the war is being fought for money and the players that want it to continue have simply replaced the Communists threat with the purposely amorphous bogeyman of Al Queda. Obama appears powerless or unwilling to stop the war in what has to be a purely domestic political consideration.

1. Maybe he isn't as intelligent as we thought
He keeps referring to Al Qaeda which as far as I know is more or less universally acknowledged to not be an influence in Afghanistan anymore.

... Obama or a Republican. Not voting at all.

When it doesn't make any difference who you vote for, it's hard to come up with a reason to vote.

I for one will not vote for Obama again. Period.

4. I have higher standards for Obama.
Edited on Wed Jun-23-10 02:10 PM by AndyA
I didn't expect anything from Bush, other than constant annoyance, lies, and abuse.

I expect more from Obama and I thought he was better than all this.

With Congress now talking about raising taxes to offset the deficit, I would think putting an end to the wars would be an obvious strategy, as it would save a ton of money. Focusing on increasing jobs domestically would increase the tax base, generating more income to pay down the deficit.

It seems so simple to me, but what the heck do I know. I'm not the President.

20. Really? What money?
The Military Industrial Complex needs feeding, that's what money. Since the end of the draft, something that should have been a good thing, gave us the private armies of Blackwater and KBR. These armies need to be feed, they need their money. So when someone talks about money, you must know, this is the money we speak of.

28. I wondered if that's what the OP meant
I don't think we fight wars just to feed the MIC. I think we do that quite well without any wars at all. There are plenty of oil operations all over the globe to protect, drugs, guns, etc. Even if there were none of that, they manage to suck out a huge chunk just to be "Number One". That'll feed the right wing forever.

I don't think we're in Afghanistan to feed the MIC. Oil pipelines, maybe.

17. Neither con job or fraud was cited in that post.
I agreed with much of the OP because President Obama used the excuse of fighting Al Qaeda when just a handful of them are even in Afghanistan. I'm willing to bet there are more Al Qaeda in the United States, so does that mean we should be unleashing our military on our own country. Sorry, but I'm tired of hearing that faulty Al Qaeda excuse as a reason for perpetuating the Afghanistan War. How much money, how much blood and how many years will we remain in a country where success is impossible?????

The OP didn't say either con job or fraud. He was rather holding the President's feet to the fire as any good citizen should do. I want President Obama to do what candidate-Obama said he was going to do. That is not asking too much. It's asking for him to do what he said he was going to do. BTW, I worked tirelessly for a year to get Obama elected and I was one of his delegates. I didn't work that hard only to see Bush's policies and wars perpetuated.

25. This whole topic reminds me
of that old saw: "When the people lead, the leaders will follow."

And THAT reminds me of Obama's challenge to us: "Make me do it."

The problem seems to be that not enough of us agree on what it is we really want him to do to buckle down and figure out the best way to light a fire under him. Maybe the warmongers have bigger torches, but there is one hell of a lot more of us than there are advisors and defense lobbiests, etc.

Whenever I see/hear people accusing Obama of being weak I just want to hold up a picture in front of them of average Americans at the mall at Christmas time competing for the last "cabbage patch doll".

53. For years I've been saying
that we need to just walk away from things that are wrong. Stop participating to whatever degree is possible. I know that's not feasible for many people, but what would happen if hoardes of people didn't go to work or do any shopping for a month. Just one month. It would certainly get someone's attention, in both industry and government. And I don't think its illegal. Yet, anyway. But if only a few people did it ... who would even notice?

I'm also rather fond of the idea of setting up local currencies all over the place to help sustain communities, which would allow people to boycott at least some of the multinational businesses that don't deserve our support. That's a big subject, though, all by itself.

Not a year has gone by since the revolution when the United States military forces weren't involved somewhere in the world.

It's who we are.

Maybe with this kind of record, 44-0, it's time to stop expecting more.
