didn't have choice; personal, nonpolicy disagreement; just can't do that, lines can't cross, uniform code issues; mistake in judgment; mcchrys great; tough.

Is war winnable? Permanent setback for aq possible; not as 51st u.s. state.

Worth it? look at alternative; come to grips with aq. integrated theater, with pakistan very complex.

9. No, he won't
He will find good to say for McChrystal's 30-year career and service. He will say the President did what had to be done and did it honorably. He will say that McChrystal has to take the consequences that come of conduct unbecoming. He will say that civilian command of the armed forces is sacrosanct. Something like that.
