12. I love when completely unqualified people suggest solutions to complex issues
What you are proposing requires, for starters, advanced knowledge in at least three scientific disciplines in order to understand the ramifications (petroleum engineering, nuclear weapons design, geology).

It also requires thorough understanding of the health and strength of various parts of the well.

Turns out that there was a meeting early on with scientists who have those competencies and they ruled this out.

15. That's about as bright an idea as BP had in skirting the
regulations in the first place...both are unknowns in terms of outcome. BP's outcome has been disastrous..nuking their mess would probably be the same.

Nukes around all that methane hydrate doesn't sound like a good idea.

18. Please someone explain this
You blow up the well, make a bigger hole, more oil spews out, it is radioactive and does more damage to the Gulf and all the surrounding areas. Why in the hell would you want to do that. I guess I am stupid but setting off a nuclear bomb does not make sense.

That's my solution.

21. Russia waited two years on the first one before trying it
I don't think its desperation time yet.

Some blog called The Oil Drum had a discussion about this and said that an underground nuke like Russia has done four times wouldn't work on the structure where this well is because there are a couple of partially collapsed salt domes nearby that make the nuclear option untenable

29. I've been checking out The Oil Drum, too
From what I get, it seems that although there is some logic to nuking a well to stop it (like the Russians did), it would be a disaster for this well.

I hope the people in power aren't taking this seriously.
