You know, gasoline and sticks, aka weapons

Probably over-reaction aimed at justifying spending so damn much on security

3. Yep, I agree
The incident, from what has been reported so far, is beyond overhyped, imo.

2. Here are the "weapons"...
The car contained sticks, an axe handle and gasoline, Toronto police Chief Bill Blair told CBC News on Thursday.

The Canadian Press reported two blue containers and at least three gas cans could be seen on the road, and a chainsaw, apparently taken from the car, was on the sidewalk.

A crossbow was also found, police say.

The crossbow is the only "weapon" I can see listed.

7. Yep, that was my thought as well...
I bet the chainsaw runs on, gasp, gas and as to the crossbow, well, he could well be a hunter who likes a challenge ergo the crossbow. If he was actually planning something against the G8 leaders, I HIGHLY doubt he would be driving a vehicle that would be likely to catch the attention of law enforcement or security.

Pic of vehicle:

19. One officer reported down. Prelinary transcript of video made at the scene of the stop follows:
Officer: So what's this blade thing I found under your seat? You better talk to me, Asshole. Looks just right for ripping out a man's throat, like say if a cop was leaning into your car window.

Detained: That's an ice scraper.

Officer: Oh it's an "ice scraper" huh? Does it have anything to do with this jug of foul smelling ...fluid... I found in your trunk? What's that all about Asshole?

Detained: Yes it does. That's antifreeze.

Officer: Oh it's "antifreeze" is it? How do I know that? How do I know it isn't some kind of liquid explosive?

Detained: You don't. For that matter it could be an enema. I say it's antifreeze, but don't take my word for it. Pour some out and try to set it on fire. If it catches, it's an explosive. If it doesn't, then all you have to do is shove the rest of it up your ass. If you survive, it's an enema. If you die pissing blood out of your ass, it was antifreeze.

25. Here is an article with a recent update....
Police arrest man with arsenal of weapons near G20 zone (Geez, nothing like a hyperbolic headline!)

snip

The driver of the silver Hyundai was taken by police to the temporary holding facility on Eastern Avenue constructed in advance of the G20. More than 25 officers remained at the scene, and the street was cordoned off with yellow police tape.

The car has Ontario license plates, and a bumper tied on with string. On top of the car sat a homemade storage container fashioned from sheet metal. Some weapons were visible to police when the looked in the car, and they eventually removed a crossbow, five arrows, a sledgehammer, a pick-axe, a chainsaw, and a baseball bat. S gasoline canister, cola bottle and water container were tested by the hazardous materials team, but the substances inside were deemed harmless.

A scruffy white dog was also in the car at the time of the arrest.

snip

At the scene, Constable Hugh Smith of Toronto Police said the driver was approximately 53-years-old and appeared disoriented when answering police questions.

He was pulled over when he drove into the area, because of the appearance of his vehicle.

Some of the forums attached to articles about this are saying the man was homeless and lived in his vehicle, no news report on this as yet.

12. Well, it seems there may be a question as to whether uniforms were stolen at all...
Toronto Police could not confirm a report earlier today that 13 or more of their uniforms had been stolen from dry cleaning shops around the city in the past few days.

The report was posted on 680News.com and cited unnamed Toronto Police sources.

snip

Police duty Staff Sgt. Joel Kulmatycki went a step further and said the report was completely inaccurate. “There are no police uniforms stolen,” he said. “And I’m not playing games with you either. This isn’t like a cat-and-mouse thing where we’re trying to hide anything (from the media).”

snip

The unverified report comes less than two weeks before world leaders arrive in Toronto for the G20 summit.

Got to watch out for those lumberjacks.

Maybe it was the "scruffy white dog" that gave it all away.
