Say goodbye to New York's V and W subway lines - part of big cuts to NYC's transit system

Last Stop for the V&W - MTA Doomsday on Track

Tom Namako and Oliver Renick
The New York Post

NEW YORK - Doomsday is here.

The first of the MTA's massive cuts begins as the V and W subway lines make their final runs before heading to the great train shed in the sky.

And the next few days won't get any better.

On Sunday, millions of riders will see the first weekend service changes and the elimination of dozens of bus lines.

And by Monday, the full plan will be in effect: a new orange M line will turn uptown in Manhattan and head into Queens, the N will run local along Broadway, the Q will replace the W in Astoria, and the G will be hacked at Court Square.

Not to mention even more severe bus changes across the city. .........more)

1. Meanwhile, the 7 is getting extended down to Chelsea
Cut in Queens, expand in lower Manhattan. Gotta love NYC...

2. Is there going to be a train party like there was for the no.9? I was at that one.
I never really understood the V & W since the N and R ran a lot of the same routes.

4. It basically just meant there were more N trains in Queens and Midtown during the day

If you were trying to get from Astoria to Midtown, you wouldn't have to wait as long. Now there will be fewer trains during the day, and they'll be evenly spaced out all the way from Astoria to Coney Island (IIRC only the A is longer; if they'd extend it a few hundred yards into the Bronx it would go to 4 boroughs, and Rockaway is I think due south of Bridgeport, CT).
