That is a reasonable question.

1. In what sense?
Ready for a standard hurricane or an oil-spewing hurricane?

2. What does "ready" mean, and how does Pres Obama be ready?
He reacted faster to flooding than bush did.

3. He ordered a truckload of plywood today
The secret service will be nailing it over the windows as soon as the storm draws a bead on the Whitehouse.

I'd say he ain't ready.

How the hell can he be ready for whatever nature and BP have in mind?

7. It will be a catastrophe.
I believe his response will be much better than how Bush responded after Katrina, but there is only so much that can be done. Unfortunately, the damage done by those previously in power will make such a disaster worse than is has to be.

9. CNN
Interviewed a high official of the Coast Guard and they talked about evacuations five days ahead of the storm. Where people were going to go, I have no idea. But, he seemed confident that the Coast Guard could handle the situation.

who have not been utilized for things like say, maintaining boom? "Is Obama ready", indeed. :eyes:

Actually I'm glad they haven't for their own health's sake.

13. The Coast Guard
is a Federal agency, and is not under the command or control of the jerks like Jindal or Barbour (thank God). The morons like Perry, Jindal, and Barbour have their National Guard.

16. While the CG is busy apprehending drug dealers they look married to BP...
And the lovefest between the Coast Guard and BP is disgusting. If a boat carrying even a small amount of drugs is apprehended by the Coast Guard all of those on board can be jailed immediately and then the government can seize all of their property, including their boat, homes, cars and bank accounts. But if you're a corporation who destroys the entire Gulf of Mexico you get away with your crime by throwing a handful of dollars. Why shouldn't the SAME SEIZURE laws apply to corporations. Corporations have all the benefits as citizens (even if they are foreign corporations) but NONE of the liabilities. THAT NEEDS TO CHANGE! And if our democratic leadership was smart they would enact such changes to be able to seize the assets of any white collared criminal who defrauds others or causes great harm to our environment. I thought this was OUR country? It and our government is obviously owned by corporations.

19. Thank you for that correction. That IS what I meant.
I'm getting old and am GLAD I'm so old. This shit is worse than the "Alice in Wonderland" on steroids during the *era. Now we're talking bad acid and Ambien. Can NO ONE STOP BP from spraying that chemical poison into the Gulf???

*Who remembers that DU keystroke?:hide::rofl:

person over at dailykos posted this question. It's a tough situation for anyone to imagine being "in charge" of, so I pray for him to make the wisest choices, it's certainly a lot of pressure and honestly he's at the whims of nature and BP disaster the gov't allowed to happen, so what can he do besides tell FEMA and Coast Guards to make sure they have everything ready, and I really would rather not hear him say "I was wrong" anymore this year, I want to cheer him on for things, like I did recently with friends (and on the thread here on DU about GLBT issues getting better a few days ago) because like many down here, we're just really crushed with a horrible dilemma if a hurricane spreads millions of gallons of OIL & CHEMICALS upon us! I cannot let the person in my family who has medical issues stay in the contaminated surroundings if oil and chem is literally blowing down upon us. I so very much hope that it doesn't happen!

15. Thad Allan is ready
He even sent a series of e-mails to Coast Guard RETIREES and Coast Guard RESERVE RETIREES to volunteer for this summer's "Emergency In The Gulf." And those retires are like retired fire fighters -- they hear that siren and they are out in the street with full turn out gear (which they have to buy themselves) running after the young kids on the rigs.

I fear. In terms of proactive help to people.

I'm sure they already have press releases and a mini-speech or two written and ready though.
