Privatization.
I worry that it continues, as the things republicans enjoy targeting become even more damaged (especially in California, where infrastructure is seriously suffering due to Ahnold).

Anyone else think that they love to profit from smashing things, and then offering =their= solution (to problems they've caused)?

"Disaster Capitalism" is alive and well.

1. Thom Hartmann says it best. He says part
of our social and economic infrastructure is the commons and should be run by government (meaning 'we the people' as government, not some dictator or small group of elites who own everything) and not for profit. Then there is the private sector, usually manufacturing and retail, which should be run by private enterprises in competition with each other in the way the conservatives like to think of free market.

How business is run today, especially big business, has nothing to do with free market and competition. It's about monopoly and corporate welfare from our government. I find it disgusting. Our commons should not be run by private enterprises especially when they are being paid out of our tax money.

3. That is what they do............
But privatization is not the answer.

Apart from the fact that the wealth of the commons is being stolen, it is a personal opinion that no single entity should ever get so large and so powerful that it can take down an entire world economy. These companies are using and abusing the earth and its inhabitants for fun and profit, and it is morally, ecologically wrong. Money will not help when there is nothing to buy because we are killing the planet.

4. I'm not a pessimist, but a realist, and I am doubtful much is going to
change in my lifetime. I had hoped for many changes, but see more of the same from all angles.

In early years I was an optimist, but much of that has been smashed. There is a paralysis in America, many Americans still choose to be asleep at the wheel, choose to be ignorant, choose to get excited about the wrong things, and many are lethargic about democracy.

We've had it too good as a country and many falsely believe this will just continue. Citizens could take collective action for the betterment of the country, but choose instead to remain divided.

6. '"Disaster Capitalism" is alive and well.'
And just another part of the neoliberal agenda of EVERY president since Jimmy Carter.

Disaster capitalism is just focused neoliberalism taking advantage of points of extreme vulnerability.

The next round is being planned right now at the G20 Summit in Toronto.
