The killing must stop.
http://democracyrising.us/content/view/904/164/Washington, DC: Democracy Rising joined with 20 peace and justice organizations urging Majority Leader Reid and Speaker Pelosi in fulfilling “the mandate for peace the voters delivered last November, and send the president a bill to fund only the safe, orderly and complete withdrawal of all US troops, contractors and bases within six months.”
As the Congress and Bush administration work to find common ground the peace movement is making its’ position clear – do not give in to Bush, push to really end the war. “We were told when the Democrats took control of the Congress that they would not use the ‘power of the purse’ to end the war. But, the peace movement pushed and now they are beginning to do so,” said Kevin Zeese, executive director of Democracy Rising said.
“This summer will see increasing and consistent pressure on elected officials both in Washington, DC and in their home districts to end this disastrous Iraq war. Every day the news from Iraq is bad – more deaths of U.S. soldiers, and Iraqi civilians and more spending with less results. As the summer progresses two things will happen. First, the failure of the Baghdad Security Plan will become more evident. And, second, elected officials will realize that they risk their political careers by continuing to fund the war,” said Zeese.
Democracy Rising is working with anti-war groups to organize a "Swarm on Congress" as part of a Summer of Action to end the war. "Activists will be coming into DC to send the message -- no business as usual -- until the war is brought to an end," noted Zeese.
