Has there ever been a national referundum on a ballot?

I've been listening to reruns of various liberal talk shows on the radio, and most of our domestic problems require $$ to achieve. I've also heard many calllers say they would glad,y pay abit mre in taxes to get them done. Since our Dems don;t have the balls or the power to do aything like RAISE TAXES, I wonder if a national refurendum would work and could it be done?

It would require a constitutional amendment. And we probably shouldn't go to mob rule, on a nationwide basis, anyway.

2. Frankly, I would not trust nationwide referendums because many Americans are

too ignorant and too gullible. Manipulators could sway the results any direction they choose because so many voters choose to be uninformed and often make decisions when voting based on fallacious reasoning IMO. Many also vote with their biased bigotry.

It should be no surprise that the framers did not provide for a national referendum.
