"Please spread... I want to piss off the world.". HQ Gulf flyover,6/21
Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 03:09 PM by Cetacea
"Not one square inch of clear water". "It was many miles from any water that was not contaminated. In all likelihood, the Dolphins and Sperm Whale seen in this video are dead by now.

The Dolphins were disoriented. Some already dead and others struggling to keep their heads up high enough to see the fires. The Sperm Whale was covered in oil.

We have to spread this around the world! Who will be accountable for their lives?

All involved in this disaster will be held accountable to a higher power than any on Earth. Man should not destroy the gentle creatures God created."

Video is not graphic. It does a very good job of showing just how large the area of oil invested waters has grown.

I wonder if that's a function of an 'alert' button on the video or 'inappropriate' flag. Suspended till it was reviewed by youtube staff?

96. Dunno, I've been seeing that error on non-political videos as well
But always on ones that are "embedded" on other sites. When it happens, I click on the video box, it takes me to the video on the youtube site and it plays okay there. The only ones that haven't played there are ones that are taken down for copyright violations. I figgered I had some plugin on my browser that was interfering.

2. Heartbreaking
why are we allowing this to happen? Just WHO is telling the President that "nothing more can be done?"

A friend of mine suggested that BP can deduct every leaked barrel of oil as a loss, and eventually profit off of the disaster. I don't know if there's any merit to that idea, but neither BP nor our government seems terribly interested in what's happening down here anymore.

4. The President has not acted at all like the person that ran for that office.
Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 03:05 PM by truedelphi
The whole time he has been in office reminds me of the movie "Mr Smith goes to Washington" but whereas the Jimmy Stewart's character gets clued in by his secretary as to what is really transpiring, Obama is kept to a tight schedule of meeting with the princesses. (In the movie, Mr Smith is asked to be with these princesses and that is why he is not around when conspiratorial things happen in Congress and are about to be voted in.)

Great movie for any one who likes Stewart and movies with strong story line. Great but fun explanation of how the "candidate trail" is managed by the real Powers That Be.

56. Isn't that what disaster capital is all about. Profit from disasters by
insuring for them and then getting paid to clean them up? I have not read Naomi's book because I am afraid I cannot handle it but this is what I have gotten just reading here on DU.

As to making this viral all over the world - there are green organization everywhere. Ask them to take this and help us spread it. I would but I do not know how to contact them.

69. The phrase that is stuck in my brain the last two months is this:
"There are none so blind as those who will not see"

A lot of people know that this wasn't an accident, it was a crime of greed and corruption. However, the media is keeping the spin alive and far too many people are willing to believe what they're told as long as it isn't happening in their backyard.

As long as they are able to get in their SUVius giganticus and drive a block or two to the mall, they remain complacent and ignorant of the death and destruction going on all around them.

As you said: People need to WAKE THE HELL UP!

Succinct and 100% correct.

78. Kind of like this -
Sorry, I'm not a fanatic but this does seem appropriate.

The Psalms 115

God and the Idols

1 Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us,
but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake.

2 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God?

3 But our God is in the heavens:
he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

5 They have mouths, but they speak not:
eyes have they,
but they see not:

6 they have ears, but they hear not:
noses have they,
but they smell not:

7 they have hands, but they handle not:
feet have they,
but they walk not:
neither speak they through their throat.

8 They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.

9 O Israel, trust thou in the LORD:
he is their help and their shield.

10 O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD:
he is their help and their shield.

11 Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD:
he is their help and their shield.

12 The LORD hath been mindful of us:
he will bless us;
he will bless the house of Israel;
he will bless the house of Aaron.

13 He will bless them that fear the LORD,
both small and great.

14 The LORD shall increase you more and more,
you and your children.

15 Ye are blessed of the LORD
which made heaven and earth.

16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's:
but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

17 The dead praise not the LORD,
neither any that go down into silence.

18 But we will bless the LORD
from this time forth and for evermore.

Praise the LORD.

86. No reason to be sorry.
Like a lot of sayings, the one that I mentioned has a lot of possible origins listed.

Your post was one of the ones mentioned as possibly being where the saying originated and it is appropriate.

FWIW, I'm in the non-believer group but I'm not fanatical about it either. The only time that I get upset over religion is when it's used as a reason for violence or profit.

This disaster in the Gulf really does seem to meet the criteria for a disaster of Biblical proportions.

14. here's another image -- pitch perfect.
A speckled crab is almost completely encased in a thick layer of oil just offshore from the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. Bits of trash, such as this American flag, are similarly encrusted with the thick, goopy oil found hugging the seafloor in several locations along the Gulf beach.
Unlike tarballs, which can often be picked up out of the water without staining the fingers, the submerged oil stained everything that it touched. A hand passed through the material emerged covered in oily smears. A hunk of fabric hovering near the bottom was completely covered in oil.

like I've been doing with many others. Most of my posts on small, local message boards about the oil disaster are ignored, or there might be a response or so, but I'll keep it up. At least they are getting viewed.

I'm finding that many people just don't want to hear about it but perhaps one of these videos will wake up a few.

"People only see what they are prepared to see."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

I'm so thankful that I can come to DU and find so many people who do care. Thank you for posting this video.

39. because if people in large numbers really grasped how awful the situation is,
there would likely be panic, or at the very least outrage on a scale that might cause real trouble for the entities who wish to keep everything "under control"

It seems like the decision has been made to just sweep things under the rug as much as possible..."we'll make this right" and so on, while at the same time doing everything possible to keep attention away from the actuality of the disaster. Put the dispersants out, keep media away, etc.

Hell, people don't even want to know, or to face up to it. The job's half done by making the population complacent, detached, and pretty much powerless.

60. Gene Taylor shares responsibility for this
He has downplayed it, acted as if it was no big deal, pretended that others were making too much of it.

Now that it is staining our shores he is upset, had he gotten this involved and angered in April maybe things would be better.

They just showed a pleasure boat that had gone out to the islands to see for himself what the oil looked like. His boat is coated with the oil all along the waterline.

And the governor keeps telling us the stuff isn't toxic but not to touch it unless you have had the proper training.

45. There are no words for the sorrow and anger I feel.

We have to make all of this devastation count for something or else go the way of an invading virus.
We're running out of time.

51. Good find
Why is it that video game network is covering this better than our "supposed" media?

77. Geeks don't like other people telling them what to do/see?
Just a guess. Remember, G4 used to be called TechTV. It had several, ah, "subversive" programs on before the switch. One was called "The Screensavers", and that show had lots and lots of very, very interesting tech segments. One segment on their show was called "Dark Tips", and dealt with how to use gray areas of technological legality to skirt both law and industry whims.

Unlocking the iPhone, for example, would have fit in perfectly on that show. I think that segment may have been one factor in the show's demise.

52. They can run, but they can't hide. We've been sold a bill of goods too many times now. We won't
believe their lies. BP is a bunch of tall babies. They are not
grown ups. Take responsibility? Huh, there's a laugh. They are
immature bullies. Shackle all of them now. I don't want to
hear another word out of any of them.

62. It is beyond despicable that this type of visual information is being kept from
the American public by OUR GOVERNMENT and the corporate media. I cannot find the words to describe the rage I feel while watching this. Just contemplating the death and destruction in the Gulf is difficult enough, but trying to imagine the effects when this oil and these dispersants get into the GULF STREAM is heartwrenching.

Thank you for posting this, Cetacea. I'll see that it gets spread far and wide on my email list.

65. I keep
wondering, when do you decide that a person or company has gone so far around the twist that they've effectivly declared war on a place, a people, or an ecology? What are we supposed to do when the people that are supposed to defend us from it, that we've elected to keep us from the harm these entities may inflict on us as a country or an environment, fail? It confuses and sickens me that there is nothing to be done to hold anyone or anything to account outside of hearings and headlines. I fear no accountability will come of it and we'll be yoked to that for the rest of our lives.

70. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.
It was foolish and irresponsible to go drilling that deep with that much pressure without some kind of backup plan in case of emergency. Instead, they rushed in to be the first to go that deep to get more oil.

They should have had a backup plan in case of this kind of catastrophe. They did not. Why?

Why are humans allowing dolphins to die horribly like that when dolphins protect humans so often?

I have no answers. I wish someone did. I wish I could go back in time and stop that well from ever being started.

This is so horrible.

The question you put forth regarding the tendency for dolphins to rescue humans and the treatment they all to often get in return should be an OP in and of itself.

81. Are you referring to the photo in the OP?
It looks similar to a dolphin but is in fact the lone sperm whale that the photographer observed.
What looks like fire was most likely "hot spots" created by water, oil and sunlight.
BP would not burn any dolphins or whales as that would be a blatant violation of the Endangered Species Act in the case of sperm whales and the Marine Mammal Protection act in the case of both species. Of course we don't really know if they have or will do so in the future.

83. Thank you, I think
Very glad it is just "hot spots" - at least I hope that is true.

RE BP --it is a fact that they BURN ALIVE endangered sea turtles and other marine life, trapped in oil sodden sargassum, therefore I would put nothing past them re sea mammals.

80. I cannot help but cry..for the people, for the now dead creatures, for the water..for the planet...
There is nothing that BP could possibly do that would make up for this, much less even correct it.

Assuming that they even really care to...
Once it is all spoiled and polluted, there will be no more excuses to keep the oil rigs out of there...

This is as tragedy for the entire planet...
