2. That's probably the real reason, but it's wrong: the small people did in fact earn that money.

SS and medicare was paid for by working people. SS is not progressive like income tax so the small people payed for it. However, the attacks against small people is part of the philosophy of the "conservatives." They probably argue that the small people were overpaid. The philosophy of conservatives is probably the greatest evil ever.

5. That's their excuse, of course.

The problem is it's exactly the excuse we were given for the high payroll taxes we've paid-that we had to support those already on the program and run a surplus that would cover the baby boomers when they reached retirement age. They've 'borrowed' all the money to cover the shortfall created by letting the rich off the hook on income taxes and now they don't want to pay it back. I don't know what anyone else calls this but I call it stealing.
