FOLKSTON, Ga. —

A private prison in Southeast Georgia's Charlton County is gearing up for an expansion that will create more than 200 jobs.

The privately operated Ray James prison plans to transfer its 1,800 state inmates to other Georgia penitentiaries this fall to make way for as many as 2,500 federal prisoners.

The prison will need a wide range of new staff members.

The Georgia Department of Labor is joining with Houston-based Cornell Companies, the prison's operator, to fill these positions.

One recruitment event has already been held.
