How many OPs a day is a good amount?
Food for thought ... And I'll say up front, this is admittedly sort of an extension of my "read more, post less" notion. The idea that Saturday Night Live would be the best show on television if it were half as long and came on TV every other week. :D

DU is a big board, a huge board, really. A lot to read for anyone -- and I say that as someone who remembers when you could get through most everything on DU between dinner and bed.

So how many times do you hover your finger over the "post" button, and think to yourself "This is too important a thought to get lost in someone else's thread!" More often than not? Or are you more into the "reply" than the OP? Do you search for dupes, even in forums that don't require it (e.g. "everywhere but LBN")?

...Or is more better, no matter what? And why?

2. I don't know about too many OPs
what would be nice is not see the same article posted repeatedly for days. What happened to all internet etiquette of checking for duplicates before posting?

20. That would stop if mods would start combining those threads.
Then there would no incentive to repost the same article over and over and over...

3. There is food for thought in your post.
It would be nice to see less duplicates.

5. My dear Robb...
Remember the 3 post limit in GD/P? During the primaries? It was plenty!

I don't post as much as I used to, either, esp. in the Lounge.

Habits change...

I post when I have something to say, or show...a picture, or a poem. Maybe 3 times a week. I haven't really kept track.

These days I mostly read. I like it!

6. One should always start an OP
without looking to see what's on the subject already. That way there are a hundred threads on the same fucking thing.

:argh:

7. The shitty threads get weeded out
While the good ones stay at the top.
I like the forum system as a whole.

12. Well, some of your recent threads 'sustained' this board quite well
The 'titleless' one was great for separating the wheat from the chaff. :)

11. When you need to post a thread to ask this question you are probably posting too much

I haven't clicked on LBN in 5 years. And I am not going to start running around clicking on other boards because some nut thinks I should either.

14. How many? One less than too many...
It depends on the poster - some people can post useful OPs until the cows come home, while others couldn't create a useful thread in a thousand tries. That's why the 'ignore threads' option is such a nice feature...

15. You're right: It depends on the poster.
Some people have a knack for knowing what's important to the DU community and others, well, it could be vanity I guess.

17. It depends
Some seem to think that if they have a thought in their head (and it doesn't necessarily have to be lucid) then it merits an OP. I'd sure like to hear less from the more blatant attention whores but some here seem to lap that shit up.

Whatever.

19. Way too many threads on the same topics.
It's hubris. How does one look at the board, see ten active threads on the topic and think "but not one started by me!"?
