Ohio Dems slam Boehner's remarks on Social Security

In a press conference on Capitol Hill today, House Democrats in the Ohio delegation vigorously attacked House Minority Leader John Boehner for his recent suggestion -- among other things -- to raise the qualification to receive Social Security benefits.

In an interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Boehner put forth the idea of raising the Social Security age to 70 for those who are more than 20 years away from receiving a Social Security check. Boehner went on to say, “We need to look at the American people and explain to them that we're broke.” More: “If you have substantial non-Social Security income while you're retired, why are we paying you at a time when we're broke? We just need to be honest with people.”

Ohio Democrats -- many in extremely competitive districts -- slammed Boehner for these comments, calling him "out of touch" and accusing him of being an elitist.

And Rep. Tim Ryan poured it on, saying: “People who work for a living with their hands, who don’t wear ties and suits and nice dresses and jewelry and play golf and hang out don’t have the luxury of an additional five to ten years of back breaking work -- it’s not going to happen.”

send him a message.... BTW, that color of his skin is doubtfully from a tanning salon. People who imbibe strong spirits heavily over a long period of time can get what is called a "neon tan." IMO his liver is what is giving him his color along with some rounds of golf...LOL.

interview should start with that regardless of the subject matter at hand. Do this until the interviewer repeats it along with the interviewed, out of frustration. Mantras work best if repeated. :rofl:

I believe it has already been raised to 67. The average age at death is about 75. It was less than 65 when SS was first introduced. Don't forget that people could start collecting at 62 when the retirement was 65.

Social Security is the third rail of American politics. People like it, want it left alone and there for them. Touch it at hazard.

Why are we paying for your health care, future retirement, and you salary when we are broke? The vast majority of members of congress are rich, so why do we pay for any of their benefits, or give them a salary? We sure as hell don't get anything from them, so why pay them, especially Mr. Boehner!

First off, I'm a hypocrite, one of the worst in the history of mankind. I am also a whore to big business who pay me so I can go to resorts to work on my tan. Since I am rich I don't give a shit about the poor or struggling families. When I run for elections I tell people I am a Christian and a proponent of 'family values' just to dupe them into voting for me. You see, republicans aren't very bright. All most of them have to hear is the word 'Christian' and that's all I need to say to get their vote. They don't care if I destroy the country or vote to take away unemployment benefits of families about to lose their homes. I am also a sociopath without any ability to feel anything towards my fellow man. I have heard of the words 'empathy' and 'compassion' but I have no idea what them mean. I certainly have never experienced those feelings.

Finally, just like my loyal followers in the tea bagging movement, I feel I am entitled to receive as much as I can from the government, but I don't want anyone else to get anything. I am not only a sociopath, I am extremely selfish, greedy, dishonest and a liar. That's what it takes to become a conservative republican. That and having no soul.

Since so many companies discriminate about age, how many will be willing to hire a 69-year-old who is trying to survive until he hits 70? Or for that matter, a 60 year old? I've known a lot of 50-somethings that have been victims of blatant age discrimination. About the only place I know where they would likely be able to get a job would be as a door-greeter at WM.

Yeah, definitely out of touch here.

will often admit "You are too old." if the job seeker is over fifty. They don't even hide it.
