What has been the response of your Representative to the oil diaster?

Because even in Florida you can hear a pin drop.

My Representative (Klein-D) is strangely absent on this one.

He is a REPUBLICAN so no surprise. People in the southern part of the Gulf, still have their heads in the sand. It's not coming HERE.

But he represents Tarpon Springs. A deeply connected Greek community that depends on fishing a the sponge ind. When thrill gets here, he's toast

this tragedy should be used to further an effort to achieving it. Part of a recent statement:

. . .this could be the “sputnik” moment of the new century, an event that galvanizes the American people to rise to the challenge of building a new clean energy economy. As President Kennedy said in 1962 we should do these things, “not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win. . .”

As part of this clean energy future, the President could also announce a major commitment to modernize and electrify our transportation system. Using all the means at his disposal, regulatory, administrative and trade related, the President should demand the United States take the lead in electric vehicle technology development and production, including the production of batteries and cars that we can then export around the world. He may advise the public that he is directing significant resources into the infrastructure construction, research, development and deployment of these new technologies and work with Congress to provide far more.

I would strongly encourage the President to commit to a new American clean energy future. As part of this call to action, he could push the Senate to quickly pass long overdue comprehensive energy legislation that will limit carbon pollution. Limiting carbon will be the key to unlocking vast sums of private investment into clean energy.


I'm so lucky he's my Rep. I've only been pissed at him once and I have faith that he speaks and works for We The People!

I live in Republican/Tea Party controlled Naples.

In the interim I lived a small town in NC, and although I've been back here (Seattle) for a couple of years I remember what that was like. I'm guessing my NC county is probably pretty much a tea bagger haven these days.

In fact there's even a clip of her questioning the BP execs during the early hearings. She wanted to know (iirc) why they were still using booms all these years later, among other things.
