Just hours after a court hearing related to the future of the superintendent for the Detroit Public Schools, the district's state-appointed emergency financial manager has sent a letter dismissing her from her position.

The letter also comes hours after the Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged former school board president with a felony for allegedly fondling himself in a meeting with Superintendent Teresa Gueyser on June 16.

District spokesman Steve Wasko said it was a budget decision that will leave the position empty until Dec. 1. "This is strictly a decision based on economic necessity."

The dismissal has set off what one board member said could become yet another showdown between the warring school board and state appointee Robert Bobb.

“Bobb does not have authority over the general superintendent. We expect her to come to work tomorrow and we expect him not to interfere with her ability to do her job,” board president Anthony Adams said.
