VFW appeals for condition-free funding for Iraq to follow madman Bush over the cliff
http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=45783

WASHINGTON — Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Wednesday presented Capitol Hill lawmakers with an appeal from more than 2,700 troops urging Congress to drop plans for withdrawal from Iraq.

The “Appeal for Courage” has been collecting signatures since February, with the goal of lobbying lawmakers to back off plans for withdrawal timetables or funding caveats.

Organizer Lt. Jason Nichols, a 33-year-old naval projects officer who has been in Baghdad since mid-January, said he has been pleased with the response.

“This really provides an objective look at how a lot of the troops feel,” he said. “We’re happy to get that message to Congress.”

1. Fine, tell the VFW to suit up so others can come home
I really get tired of the local 'boys' around the VFW where I live who like to dress up, play soldier, slap yellow ribbons on their trucks and do their fighting at the bar. Talk is cheap and patriotism IS not blindly following a fool of a leader.

22. Naval Lieutenant ... same as Army Captain.
Still, 33 is a bit old ... maybe he's a reservist or a mustang.

5. This Lt. has been in the kool-aid again!!!
2,700 signatures out of 150,000 to 170,000 troops in Iraq, that's just over 1 percent of the troops that are there. And this Lt. has the nerve to make this comment:

“This really provides an objective look at how a lot of the troops feel,” he said. “We’re happy to get that message to Congress.”

Someone needs to tell this little toad, that an objective look would require him to get his head out of his ass.

6. Yeah old farts can appeal for "courage" to kill other folks
The VFW is so fucking courageous they've yet to respond to this veteran's correpondence. Same goes for the fucking American Legion whose leader lies about his military service to make him sound brave.

So if you want continued death, destruction and despair you are providing an "OBJECTIVE" look, but if you tell the truth about the fucking disaster you are an evil subjective liberal. "Conservatism" is a fucking cancer.

7. Ever been to a VFW? it is just a bunch of drunk bar flies
telling made up war stories that are repeats they heard from someone else, most of them can't remember where the were last week much less where they were 65 yrs ago.

9. My local VFW is better than most. (I'm not a member, though.)
The Post Commander is a Viet Nam vet, liberal, and venomously anti-Cheney/Bush. Clearly, the bar is the major source of revenue and primary activity ... but the fish fry on Friday night (year around) is really good and the members who work on it are enjoyable.

Why you lucky stiff. The one I go to is only through the fall/winter months. Best fish around here too.

Not many Bushbots at this one either.

14. Yep. It's better than any other I've been to around this area, too - whether church or Amer Legion

It's quite good ... 2 pieces of deep-fried cod, french fries, and a roll for about $7. They use non-saturated/non-hydrongenated fat in their frier, too. Tasty. They've even accommodated me and offer lemonade year-around ... and found that others prefer it even in the winter.

I enjoy the collection of characters who show up, too ... and keep thinking it'd make a TERRIFIC setting for a TV sitcom. If I had the slightest talent in writing a script, I'd have a go at it. I can't believe it hasn't been done. It's perfect ... ensemble cast, base story line, plenty of drmatic and comedic "back stories," opportunity for guest stars, holiday 'specials' on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas ... it's the perfect set-up.

19. I was getting ready to mention that. I would go to this fish fry JUST for the coleslaw
Its that good.

On top of that some older lady bakes the best homemade German chocolate cake in this world but I have to get there early to get a piece of it or its gone.

No hushpuppies here though. Just fries. :(

Roskam who never served a day in his life and is the worst kind of Rethug - they endorsed HIM over one of their own.

I'll never forget that here in IL CD6.

21. Unfortunately, membership in VFW canNOT be reversed
You pay $200 for "Lifetime Membership" and you canNOT get out EVER!!1 Now how I got out of AARP in the Medicare flap. I've called both VFW and American Legion main offices to complain about their wingnut initiatives several times. Makes no difference.

23. The “Appeal for Courage” is NOT a VFW-sanctioned or underwritten campaign.
It's a right-wing reaction to the prior "Appeal For Redress" campaign which was actually initiated by active duty service members based in the Norfolk area. While the activists who were put out front to present the petition MAY be members of the VFW, the VFW is NOT one of the sponsoring organizations. This is,imho, an example of the ethically bankrupt reich-wing.

The (so-called) "Appeal For Courage," based in Bloomington, Indiana (that figures!), claims the following sponsoring organizations:
Vets For Freedom - http://www.vetsforfreedom.org/
Families United for Our troops and Their Mission - http://www.familiesunitedmission.com/
Military Families Voice of Victory - http://www.mfvov.org/

These are, afaik, all reactionary, neoconservative front organizations.

The "Appeal For Redress," based in Washington, D.C., claims the following sponsoring organizations:
Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) - http://www.ivaw.org/
Military Families Speak Out - http://www.mfso.org/
Veterans For Peace - http://www.veteransforpeace.org/

These are, afaik, all organizations that were founded PRIOR to the above (reactionary) organizations.

This is, imho, an example of the detestable 'Mighty Wurlitzer' propaganda process of the Reich.

It's Friday night and I went to my local VFW's fish fry, as I often do on Friday night. I asked Ken (the Post Commander) and Linda (the head of the Ladies Auxiliary) about this (so-called "Appeal For Courage" and the VFW's role in it. They informed me that the VFW national office DOES NOT sponsor such partisan political activities ... and something sounded fishy. (Well, it's a fish fry.) So, that's the "skinny" ... it's more sleazy bullshit from the Reich - the Lords of The Lies.
