Remember all the Fox News jokes about global warming last January
Edited on Wed Jul-07-10 02:49 PM by janet118
Remember how Fox News and their cohorts in the right wing noise machine were taunting Al Gore and saying that they wanted global warming so Florida wouldn't get cold. Remember Lou Dobbs claiming that the winter cold snap disproved all the climate change theories. Ah, those were the days.

Hey Algore: we want our global warming, and we want it now. Has anyone noticed near the MSM attention to the weather trends that might be derived from the current cold snap compared to the hysteria they exhibited when temps get above normal?

Newsbusters

Actually, Mr. Finkelstein, I don't recall any MSM hysteria during heat spells and I certainly don't remember Al Gore or anyone else getting on the TV and telling people that this "proved" global warming theories true.

But I do remember 24/7 jokes and wisecracks on Fox News about the cold weather in January and how stupid it was to believe that global warming was a problem. So, where are you now, Fox News? Does this heat wave prove that Al was right? I mean, why aren't you out there taunting those who claimed the cold weather meant global warming wasn't real? If you were "fair and balanced" and not "irrational and stupid" wouldn't logic demand that . . . never mind. Logic demands that I not try to apply logic to fake news.

Here's what the Christian Science Monitor had to say about the heat wave vs. the cold spell.

1. Broken link for CSM...
Paybacks are a biotch, aren't they? We certainly have a lot more moisture in the atmosphere... a clear indication that more evaporation is happening, which is a clear indication of general global warming. But that's far too many dots for the simple minded Faux Gnus folk.

2. link fixed . . . thanks
The right wing is incredibly effective in the propaganda business. With one network and coordinated and repeated talking points, they set the news agenda for all the networks. Even Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

3. Good story...
I was particularly interested in the question about the heat spurring crime. I think people are under a lot of financial pressure already... add unbearable heat and it's an equation for violence.

5. Ever see the movie "Summer Of Sam"?
It's about the Son of Sam murders in NYC and it talks about that very thing, adding the intense heat to all the other problems, a recipe for violence.

6. Oh wow... yes, I have seen it...
I remember when Richard Ramirez was on his rampage in Los Angeles in the heat of the summer... I sleep with the windows open most of the time, and I've done that since I was very young. I remember my mom coming into my room and slamming the window shut, telling me The Night Stalker was going to get me! :scared: It was one of those summers when it never got lower than 80 degrees at night.

It's going to be a long, hot summer, my friend... ugh...

7. Similarly, Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing...
the oppressive summer heat was the backdrop and a contributing factor for all the conflict in that movie.
