in that picture. I just re-watched the old HBO documentary on the beginnings of Air America ("Left of the Dial") and she had a marine buzz cat back then on Air America. I suspect they wouldn't be too keen on that look on MSNBC. I love her in her Buddy Holly glasses myself. :D

The first time I saw her on TV as herself, not the "show host," it was a shocker, but the look just seemed to FIT her so well. She is just so damned cute no matter which look she wears!

VERY nice, but in all honesty she could look like a Galapagos land iguana on meth, and I'd still think she was hot just because she's so damn intelligent. That's a woman who gives GREAT mind.

I think she looks beautiful as a blonde "girlie girl," adorable as a short haired spunky woman, and when not prepped for being on her show, she looks almost like a hot GUY! I think she rules each look she tries. Most women would be lucky to look as good in ONE manner as she seems to pull of in whatever style she tries.

I tend to like my guys a bit more feminine, so when she goes total tomboy she blurs that female/male line for me. If only I were into vaginas, she would be the perfect "guy" for me. :D

I usually keep my compliments focused on things other than her looks but... I totally agree.

It suits her more, although she is pretty there, and it's weird to see her w that hairstyle.

First ... as a heterosexual guy ... I have to say .... WOW!!!!

There is no doubt in my mind that in HS, Rachel could have "chosen" any guy at her school ... if she wanted to.

I suspect that guys would have been standing in line to have her snub them, just so she would have acknowleded they were alive at all.

So ... she had the advantage of "traditional good looks", and a specific look that she could have easily leveraged ... if she chose to do so.

The question I'd have then ... so why would a girl who could pick any guy she wanted, CHOOSE to be gay??

Maybe because it was no choice. She is who she is. A smart, and attractive person.

Oh ... and for the record, as a heterosexual guy, I still think she is hot.

as a 30 year high school teacher, I can tell you a girl that pretty scared the shit out of about half the young men. "Too pretty for ugly old me." The guys were right most of the time, too.

And I think we are on the same point ... "that girl" does not suddenly decide to be gay ... she had far too many choices already if she wants to find a "guy".

On a side note ... I do expect that in generations to come ... men will be kept in cages, and used to carry heavy stuff and kill bugs, on sperm farms. Women are soft, smell nice, and are usually not covered in hair. Almost every time I go to the gym, I find myself wondering why women sleep with us at all.

Thinking highly of the feminine does NOT mean that men are less. Just as people who think more of men are missing the point entirely.

I like it that people come in all colors, sexes, and interests. No one color, sex or philosophy could rule effectively without including all the others. It's been tried, and it just doesn't work.

And I think Rachel was beautiful in high school, as I think she is today. If she was my daughter, that would be one more thing about which I would be pleased for her.

And, on edit: I know you were being kind about what you said. I just have to argue for the other side here. There are some really wonderful men, just as there are some really wonderful women, and some really wonderful folks in between.

On edit again: I'm afraid spelling got away with me at this late hour.

I frankly can't fathom it. I assume it's biology. Sort of like how "sweaty person" smells terrible on a man but it's okay (not great, just okay) on a woman... even though the actual smell is freakin' identical. I assume it goes the other way for women's noses.

I thought to myself "oh that's so sad". I have a gay daughter. She just graduated from high school last month after spending her first two years in a continuation school. The change in her arc came immediately after she told me she was gay and is now taking her almost straight up. That picture makes me think of how miserable she'd probably always been.

Just me, but I think she looks far more comfortable in her body these days then back in HS. As such, I think she is far more attractive now then then.

and that will NEVER change. She is smart, insightful and a great interviewer I admire her for what she DOES on air and could not care less what she (or anyone else) does in their private life.

I am just happy for her that she at least gets the benefit of a great High School Picture...many of us would not have such a nice photo be dregged up...

Rachel lives about 20-30 miles from me out in the hilltowns of Western Massachusetts.

High school years can be very tough.

Isn't she a cali girl anyway. That's kinda a look. And it looks good to be polished for college interviews. There is nothing wrong with looking anyway one wants. It's nice to see that she has found who she likes and what she likes. Some people waste years doing things they hate.

The blonde is ok, but it doesn't really suit her.

Glamorous is impressive, but beautiful is... well, it's beautiful.

She looks confident in that picture, especially for a high-school girl. It'd be interesting to know whether she really felt as comfortable in her skin as she looks (not just because of the blonde/pearls thing which maybe wasn't her real style even then, but also because she was six feet tall, which is supposed to be difficult for a girl ). I think her TV studio look (hair just barely long enough to be tousled, and a hint of subtle lip color--her makeup artist and hair stylist hit the mark absolutely perfectly, IMHO) suits her to a T, but maybe that's partly because it's what I'm used to.

Anyway... I'm impressed. I'd never have looked at that picture and thought "future Rhodes Scholar," but even with those looks, her gigantic brain would not be denied respect.
