So what SHOULD I write? (Gay Marriage thing)
I have a gay friend who's asked me the following favor:

"Let the Republican Governor of Hawaii know what you think of her veto of Civil Unions. She thinks that Civil Unions are simply another word for Gay Marriage and that we do not deserve the same rights as married couples. You can write her at governor.lingle@hawaii.gov ."

1. Someone yesterday said...
That Ms. Lingle was married twice. I'd like to know how 'sacred' marriage is when she couldn't stick with just one. Why is it OK for her to marry, divorce and then remarry, surely an affront to marriage, and then deny gays and lesbians the opportunity to the same commitment she couldn't deal with.

3. No euphemism is acceptable. Marriage is the only term.
Both legally and emotionally it conveys acceptance in society. Marriage is a complex legal document. Marriage between two individuals reflects a commitment between a loving couple that can equally sit with other loving couples at the same table in a just and respectful community.

This is sort of what we wrote as an early opposer of Prop 8 in California. I would quote it but I am not on my computer.
