The Obama administration lost its bid Thursday to maintain a six-month moratorium on offshore deepwater drilling which a federal judge ordered to be lifted last month.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals denied the government's request to stay that judge's order pending appeal.

The motion was denied because the government failed to show "a likelihood of irreparable injury if the stay is not granted," the court wrote in a 2-1 ruling.

1. The 5th has lots of baggage with Big Oil.
Lots of junkets paid by Big Oil and lots of personal stocks in Big Oil....certainly no conflict of interests here. As I understand it, no oil company was pushing for this to be lifted, maybe their insurance companies are a little concerned with their financial exposure? Sad that the interests of 'we the people' take a back seat to the interests of Big Oil.

So, does this go to SCOTUS?

2. So work it backwards.
For years, the agencies (administration-directed agencies) turned a blind eye to any problems with applications. This was done on the orders of the bush white house.

Now on orders from the Obama white house, those same agencies - agencies that work for Obama - can take long hard looks at each application. They can ask for more detail. They can take as long as necessary to make sure that every little thing is done exactly right. Why, that might take months and months and months. If Obama orders it.
