Aspartame has been wreaking silent havoc with people's health for the past 30 years.


Aspartame is the most controversial food additive in history, and its approval for use in food was the most contested in FDA history. In the end, the artificial sweetener was approved, not on scientific grounds, but rather because of strong political and financial pressure. After all, aspartame was previously listed by the Pentagon as a biochemical warfare agent!

It's hard to believe such a chemical would be allowed into the food supply, but it was, and it has been wreaking silent havoc with people's health for the past 30 years.

The truth is, it should never have been released onto the market, and allowing it to remain in the food chain is seriously hurting people -- no matter how many times you rebrand it under fancy new names.

I know how to track down sources. So you've bought the book? Are the studies incorrect? Is what he saying untrue?

I'm still unclear on how we are sure he is a snake oil salesman.

A snake oil salesman sells you a product he knows is bogus. It will do you no good. But if the studies are correct (and I've read a few on the subject) then how is telling you to stop doing something that is potentially harmful being a snake oil salesman?

If he were telling me that I could eat all the X (read sugar, sucralose, aspartame) I wanted if I just bought his book and followed the "special guidelines", then I'd agree.

But hyperbole on either side of the fence just undercuts the arguments made.

I pointed out that he IS selling something, which you did not see in the article.

He may be the voice in the wilderness speaking the truth, but the fact that he's profiting off of, what he says, is an enormous, evil conspiracy, makes my bullshit detector go off.

Well not me personally (never touch that shit) -- but in society in general...

Look at all this stuff: Olestra, Nutrasweet, saccharin, HFCS, and, I would add fluoride. All of it "good for you" so use as much as you want but awful stuff about it that we can never find the truth because we have to protect bidness.

Toms of Maine uses no artificial sweeteners, so even though it costs a lot more, I now buy it.. The well-known brands we all grew up with are all tainted by artificial sweeteners..

The old-timey salt & baking soda concoction is a bit too harsh for my tired old gums:)

1. Aspartame's perfectly safe. This conspiracy is on par with fluoride and chemtrails.

2. Aspartame is still called aspartame. One of the companies producing changed a trademark name.

Probably fine in toothpaste, unless you swallow it. Can't spit out the Nutra-toxin, or it pretty much ruins the whole point of a low calorie artificial sweetener.

Something's gonna kill me, let me enjoy what I've got before it does.

So what if Mercola makes a few dollars selling some vitamins or whatever. Rumsfeld has made multi-millions flogging this poison but the skepdicks don't seem to mind that.

The internets are covered up with the pronouncement Aspartame is bad for you because it was once listed by the Pentagon as a biochemical warfare agent. Notwithstanding the fact the Pentagon has "biological warfare agents" lists and "chemical warfare agents" lists--never heard of a "biochemical warfare agent" and I've been to NBC school--does anyone have a source for this fact that doesn't loop back to Joseph Mercola? Everything I see uses the exact phraseology Mercola has on his site.
