Former Rep. Tancredo: Obama is country's greatest threat

By Shane D'Aprile - 07/08/10 06:34 PM ET

Speaking at a campaign rally Thursday for Colorado Senate candidate Ken Buck, former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) called President Barack Obama the greatest threat facing America today.

After recalling the nuclear threat from the former Soviet Union, Tancredo said, "We had that threat and we survived it. Later we found out we had another threat to our way of life, and that was al Qaeda. We found that out on 9/11."

Tancredo continued, "But I firmly believe this — it's not just, you know, sort of a dramatic statement that a person would make to get press or something, or ink. I believe this with all my heart. The greatest threat to the United States today, the greatest threat to our liberty, the greatest threat to the Constitution of the United States, the greatest threat to our way of life, everything we believe in, the greatest threat to the country that was put together by the Founding Fathers is the guy that is in the White House today."

On a conference call with reporters after the event, Buck denounced Tancredo's remarks and said he does not view Obama as the nation's greatest threat.

4. Wow. So, Obama is worse than *absolutely* everything.. ever.. anywhere.
Worse than the USSR; worse than Al Qaeda- that's some serious absolutism.

10. "Who will rid me of this meddlesome priest?"
What action is required of a loyal patriot...especially one who, as a member or former member of the U.S. Armed Forces, swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Especially when told by a former Member of Congress that President Barack Obama is "the greatest threat to our liberty, the greatest threat to the Constitution of the United States, the greatest threat to our way of life, everything we believe in...."?

Although Tancredo's statement does not call directly upon anyone to commit violence, it is absolutely irresponsible and he cannot be unaware of the possibility that it could be taken as a justification for extreme and violent action against the President.

Unfortunately, this is nothing new. RW Obama-haters like Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, Coulter, Malkin, and others--along with sitting Republican Members of Congress--have been saying the same thing, loudly and publicly, ever since the President was elected. They've been portraying President Obama as an existential threat to America from the very beginning.

Am I the only one reminded of King Henry II's appeal?"

12. There is no other conclusion
Tancredo's perorations inevitably lead to the conclusion that this existential threat to the United States must be eliminated, and that it would be irresponsible of Tancredo and those who agree with him not take action. Naturally, if anyone acts as if Tancredo's rantings are true, Tancredo will be the first to jump up and say that that wasn't what he meant. So, to his resume as a coward and a scumbag, you can add his qualification as a liar.

16. tancredo isn't in office because he ran for the 2008 repub presidential nomination
Edited on Fri Jul-09-10 02:45 PM by onenote
His campaign bombed and he was out of the race before the end of 2007, and he decided not to stay in Congress.

But he likely would've won had he run -- in his last race (2006), he cruised to victory by a 59-40 margin.

14. Tancredo is more of a threat to this nation than Mr. Obama.
For years, his modus operandi has been to spread racial animus and pass it off as mainstream thinking. The Bush years offered him protection. Now it is gone. The only thing left for this ingrate is to shoot off his mouth.

He is indeed a sad man who keeps on tilting at windmills.

20. Who are the ...
WE everytime they start talking its the AMERICAN PEOPLEor THEM VS us..How do they expect to fight wars they love so much when they hate everyone in the country who isn't white or rich. They are giving comfort to the enemy and other countries know more about this country than AMERICANS. His main point is that he way of life will be restored once a white man or woman is President.

This asshole doesn't even know who or what is in AMERICA while the bush crew and the rest of the CONS weren't checking on who was coming in on any border. Now the CONS want to scream and holler about really just(HISPANICS) who they somehow just noticed are in America.

The media needs to ask these people what they will do to fix America some are now waking up to what America is really about. The media is harping on sarah palin now. Repubs be careful for what you wish for especially in this climate. People are angry and many ARE paying attention.

Yes,let sarah win and let the games begin,I say this for any repub., They have been criticizing this President and screaming about what he should or should not do before he even took office. Now,what do you think will happen if we get a repug President, house and senate? Will everyone go along with some more of there tax cuts and shipping more jobs overseas?

Yes,they and the chamber of commerce will start back hiring so that it will look like everything is rosy for a while, meanwhile they will be making more deals to destroy us some more while they fill their and their families pockets so they can retire rich and keep playing these games. The economy was fucked up in the early 2000 as I sent out many resumes and stood in many lines at jobs fairs and over the net. They are full of shit! and some people still don't get it.

Do they really think they will be comfortable with their ill gotten gains while the majority of America suffers. Crime was out of control during the bush years although the media likes to portray it as low, and another thing I get so tired of hearing about CHICAGO'S crime problem because the President is from CHICAGO crime is out of control all over the country we have had shootings at malls and other horrendous crimes throughout the bush years. Isn't anyone worried about all of the children and women being murdered its and EPIDEMIC and the beat goes on...
