Protect Wolves in Idaho and Wyoming...
This is outrageous! The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has released its proposal to strip wolves of crucial Endangered Species Act protections in Idaho and parts of Wyoming. Both states are now preparing massive wolf eradication plans, and hundreds of wolves could be killed.

Send a message to Dirk Kempthorne, U.S. Secretary of the Interior, who oversees the Fish and Wildlife Service.
http://action.defenders.org/rockymountainoutrage2

Both Idaho and Wyoming have begun actively planning efforts to kill hundreds of wolves. As many as two-thirds of the wolves in Wyoming could be killed. And as many as 60 of Idaho's 71 wolf packs could be eradicated!

The government once nearly allowed our Northern Rocky Mountain wolves to be shot, harassed and poisoned into extinction. We can't let that happen again.

Please send Interior Secretary Kempthorne a message about the importance of protecting our wolves right now:

These wolves are in trouble. I hope you'll help...

7. If the idiots in Idaho would use a little common sense...
There is a real risk of overpopulation and danger to the general public in Idaho. Instead of having regulated hunts or doing more to control the population of these animals, they would rather strap on their orange vests and go on a hunting spree.

But they won't. We lived in the state for five years and many of these people are completely unreasonable. They blame outsiders for just about every regulation you can think of. When a referendum came up on bear hunting people went freaking crazy about it. 'It's the outsiders!' :eyes:

I met a few of them. Even explaining that the kind of bear hunts that needed to be outlawed were barbaric and inhumane did no good. Telling them that Montana banned that type of hunting because of the threat to the bear population did no good. These bear hunts I'm referring to are very brutal. The hunters take dogs with them and when they wound the bear, they send the dogs to take the bear down. The video is horrific.

I can't speak for Wyoming, but Idaho is filled with survivalists and RW nutjobs who don't like anyone except for those already living in their state.

8. I guess they've forgotten that, at one time, THEY were the "outsiders"
Did you ever see the movie "The Bear"? It's one of my all-time favorites...beautiful cinematography, and an effective environmental message. Here's the Amazon spiel: http://www.amazon.com/Bear-Bart/dp/B00000IQBE

9. We've got it...
Hubby and I love it. He's an avid hunter and very aware of how important it is to protect the animals. He grew up in Montana. His family and him are very respectful of the land and animals on it. When they hunt, they only take what they need and nothing more. They are very conscientious of what they do and how they go about it. I think that's because a lot of Indian tradition was passed down through the generations.

11. I think you lost the other thread
Kempthorne is a southern californian, relocated to Idaho, who never saw a wolf he thought should live.

12. Still seems to be there...
Thanks! :-)

Still, we have to let him know our opinion. It may do no good; be he has to know that we're willing to fight for the wolves.
