Headless bodies and other immigration tall tales in Arizona

Jan Brewer has lost her head.

The Arizona governor, seemingly determined to repel every last tourist dollar from her pariah state, has sounded a new alarm about border violence. "Our law enforcement agencies have found bodies in the desert either buried or just lying out there that have been beheaded," she announced on local television.

Ay, caramba! Those dark-skinned foreigners are now severing the heads of fair-haired Americans? Maybe they're also scalping them or shrinking them or putting them on a spike.

But those in fear of losing parts north of the neckline can relax. There's not a follicle of evidence to support Brewer's claim.

The Arizona Guardian Web site checked with medical examiners in Arizona's border counties, and the coroners said they had never seen an immigration-related beheading. I called and e-mailed Brewer's press office requesting documentation of decapitation; no reply.

2. Good Heavens, how long has she been dead?
I know we're not supposed to comment on looks, but I'm shocked by how corpselike her face looks in that picture.

14. You're right!
But the actress in ST looked better, even with all that old-age makeup. And of course, without it she was a babe.

3. Maybe "our" means "North American" --
the drug people in Mexico seem to have developed a habit of leaving headless corpses lying around -- maybe Brewer figures if the Brown-Skinned-Ones are doing it there, they're doing it everywhere?

One must assume the worst, after all.
A good xenophobic hysteria has to be fanned and fed.

10. She said Arizona law enforcement had found beheaded bodies, which was a lie.
Repukes sure love being lied to, if it supports their idiotic world view.

5. Sadly there are people who buy into her crap no matter what the facts state
It's like how on 9/11 people in the state of michigan got suckered into paying $5 and $6 for a gallon of gas in some area's of the state cars were lined up for miles trying to buy gas because of the muslum invasion and they might have to hide out at their cabins away from the city. American fear of the bad people out there is nothing new nor is ever based on reality. Growing up in the 50's and 60's you experienced nuke attack drills where the answer to an atom bomb being dropped was hide under your school desk.

Then there was the deadly drug scares of the same period where everything from pot to LSD where displayed as genetic altering substances, why they even had movies that showed the birth defects these deadly street drugs caused. Only 20 years later we found out that the deformed fetuses they showed in those movies were not caused by deadly street drugs but the safe FDA approved drugs doctors were prescribing. Fear has been the greatest tool of the republicon machine since Ike was elected.

6. Right out of the rethuglican playbook.

When distortions and exaggerations don't work, just make shit up.

Then phase two ... repeat the same lies over and over until they are accepted as truth.

7. Yep- I should have known from the number of times this was repeated (MORE FROM THE ARTICLE)
Two months ago, the Arizona Republic published an exhaustive report that found that, according to statistics from the FBI and Arizona police agencies, crime in Arizona border towns has been "essentially flat for the past decade." For example, "In 2000, there were 23 rapes, robberies and murders in Nogales, Ariz. Last year, despite nearly a decade of population growth, there were 19 such crimes." The Pima County sheriff reported that "the border has never been more secure."

FBI statistics show violent crime rates in all of the border states are lower than they were a decade ago -- yet Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) reports that the violence is "the worst I have ever seen." President Obama justifiably asserted last week that "the southern border is more secure today than any time in the past 20 years," yet Rush Limbaugh judged the president to be "fit for the psycho ward" on the basis of that remark.

16. And oddly enough, violent crime is way up in Maricopa County--home of "America's
Self-Shilling (er, TOUGHEST, I mean TOUGHEST, really!) Sheriff"--and of course, a ReBPublican darling..

9. She got it from Criminal Minds
Edited on Sat Jul-10-10 10:01 AM by Catshrink
An episode of Criminal Minds reran right before Brewer spewed about the alleged "beheadings." The episode dealt with beheadings of migrants in Texas. It turns out it was a deputy who did it. I swear she lives in a fantasy world.

Season 5: Episode 19: A Rite of Passage: The team tracks an Unsub who is killing illegal immigrants trying to cross into the U.S.

on edit: the episode first ran in April.

15. I've seen her lots of times---
---sitting at the end of the bar; dangly plastic earrings that match her clear plastic shoes; capri pants and a tube top: chain-smoking BelAirs, sipping a small draft and calling every guy "darlin'" with a voice that sounds like she gargles razor blades.
