However, before the abovementioned 90-minute halt (potential penalty shoot-outs notwithstanding), there is one final formality to attend to: the not-so-trifling matter of the official closing ceremony.
According to the Organising Committee (OC), "Africa's first FIFA World Cup (is) set to close in a blaze of lights and music".
The OC goes on to state that it is "set to be a colourful, celebratory tribute to the tournament, the fans and their experiences in the host country during what's been a memorable month."
This half-hour ceremony happens at 18:30 on Sunday at Soccer City, with a short changeover period before the final culminating match kicks off at 20:30.
Half a billion expected viewers!
The organisers claim that it will be broadcast live in 215 countries to an estimated audience of over 500-million viewers - not bad viewership figures.
