Anyone see anything skewed in today's AP lead?
WASHINGTON (AP) — Keeping unemployment benefits flowing for millions of workers whose jobs were eaten by the recession should have been a slam dunk in an election year.

But until this month, Senate Democrats have been unable to bring themselves to pass a simple bill that just does it. Instead they've demanded a series of unrelated and often controversial tax and spending add-ons that have enabled Republicans to mount successful filibusters.

Now that the legislation has been shorn of all the extras, the bill could win final passage soon.

1. Wow. That's extraordinary, even for the Asinine Press.

Pretty much shifted all the blame. It turned recalcitrant Republican obstruction and F**k You to the unemployed to "successful" Republican filibusters.

4. AP has devolved to become a tool of the Republicorporate Party
They shot the wad on cred some time back during their knee-bending on behalf of Commander AWOL Bush and Dickie 'Five-Military-Deferments' Cheney - the Chickenhawk Crusaders (R)

11. How in the world did you come to that conclusion
The bill is loaded with stuff, not at all related to unemployment benefits. Whether it is good stuff or not is moot. The entire point was if the Bill is just about unemeployment benefits alone it may get some Republican support. Senator Snowe has said she would vote for such a bill. It may come to pass that everyone will have to stop loading up bills with unrelated material..I think that may actually be a good thing in the long run..

6. Propaganda basics
No matter what the story, it is always the fault of the part out of favor with the owners of the media machine.

In America, it is always the Democrats.

8. If something gets passed, "congress" passes it
If something fails to pass, the "Democrats" failed to pass it. Any reason these M$M clowns can find to link "Democrats" with "failed."

... You can't spell CRAP without AP.

13. The same thing happened with the Medicare payment extension
it was bundled with a bunch of other stuff and failed to pass, causing unnecessary disruption and concern for both Medicare providers and patients. Once it was unbundled and made a stand alone bill, it passed easily. Nancy Pelosi was STILL upset that Harry Reid had unbundled it, because she wanted to see it combined with a jobs stimulus. Harry was right, it was more important to pass the payment extension alone. He still screwed up, because he could have done the same thing a lot earlier and spared the chaos and confusion that resulted from the delay.

I have to say that the gist of this AP article is correct. Just like the Medicare payment extension, if they unbundled it, it would pass quickly because no one wants to deny the unemployed their benefits if that is ALL they are voting on.

It's common practice to hide the gold with a lot of dross in combined bills, but it is wrong for ESSENTIAL legislation get mired because of add-ons.
