Yet another purged U.S. Attorney?

“A former West Virginia federal prosecutor said Friday the White House fired him in 2005 in the middle of a corruption and vote-buying investigation but never told him why.”

Karl K. “Kasey” Warner said he has “concerns” and sees parallels between himself and eight other ousted U.S. attorneys. Congress and an internal Justice Department agency are investigating whether those firings were politically motivated.

The Justice Department rejected any suggestion of politics in Warner’s dismissal. <…> Warner would not elaborate on what concerned him about his August 2005 firing but rejected the idea that he was fired over his performance.

“The facts speak for themselves. Look into how I ran my office. See how I managed the office,” Warner said. “If they want to look at the cases I had and the corruption cases we have now, people can come to their own conclusions about why I was let go.”

Warner said he refused to resign when asked by the Justice Department, responding that he took his direction from President Bush.

“Next thing I know, I get a letter from the president’s counsel, Harriet Miers, saying I’d been fired, no reason given,” Warner recounted in a telephone interview.

1. Voter suppression/corruption
seems to be the common thread running through all the firings, isn't it? Will Michael Moore's next movie be about this, do you think?

2. This Certainly Got My Attention
And I have to say, at least in this little part of West Virginia, I have never seen anything that could be thought of as voter suppression.

3. Me thinks these U. S. Attorneys should keep quiet about
their Republikan voting investigations...

Seems like every US Attorney looking into Republikan fraud has been fired... Can you say hmmmmmm? I think you can....

4. Someone want to explain...
how it is that U.S. Attorneys are in the DOJ, the White House Counsel is part of the executive branch, yet this guy got his Dear John letter from Harriet Miers rather than Amnesia Gonzales? Does that not make the suggestion that his firing wasn't political laughable?

5. I think that all, (what is it, 93?) of them need to be reviewed

to see if there is evidence of political improprieties in their choice of prosecutions..

It is inexcusable, what this administration has done to our judicial system. There is no better definition of a "high crime" than this.

7. TIMING??? US Attorney Firing: Voter Fraud, Medicare Fraud, WHICH IS IT ???
Where was this whiner long ago?? Convenient timing to reinforce the "voter fraud" defense.

The Public Corruption track: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=831278&mesg_id=831278

The Medicare Fraud track "involved 30 U.S. attorneys' offices": http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=853813&mesg_id=853813

"eleven states were involved in litigation....The fraud investigation involved 30 U.S. attorneys' offices,
22 FBI field offices, inspectors general from the Health and Human Service Department and the Office of Personnel
Management, Defense Department investigators and state fraud units...."

Do the MATH. Was Carol Lam investigating voter fraud? NO

So-called "voter fraud" was a real track of activity, but is it the only one
to focus on when investigating the US attorney firings? NO!! emphatically.

However, if that could be accomplished, it would make some Rs very happy!!

9. NOT a US Attorney, a USA district office prosecutor, I believe
Edited on Sat May-12-07 02:25 PM by L. Coyote
That's down the food chain a good bit in a USA office, under the AsstUSAs.

Of course, a thorough investigation of all hirings and firings since the
day Ashcroft had Monica Goodling drap the boobs of justice in in order.

11. L. Coyote, could you post the url for your great thread on the Medicare fraud/
US Attorney scandal, a day or two ago? I hope you see this. I just caught up with this thread. The other day, DU crashed just before--indeed, seconds before--I could bookmark that thread. And I've never known how to search DU. (Is it possible?) Anyway, I would appreciate it. I'll check back here.
