5. That is the truth. Innocent bystanders as "collateral damage" is never acceptable.

7. If the poster is referring to a thread started last night, they are wrong
Edited on Mon Jul-12-10 06:36 PM by hlthe2b
war erupted when some tried to discuss possible motivations behind the bombing. THEY WERE NOT agreeing or condoning the action in any way. However, the usual group, who seems obsessed with feeling more sanctimonious than the average DUer, came in en masse to excoriate and (in my mind, intentionally) "misunderstand" what was being said. Further, because this was a LBN thread that started when few details were known, several came in many hours later to abuse those who did not have the facts later released. It was ugly and I refuse to even see if the thread still exists. I hope it does not. But, don't believe unconditionally what the poster is telling you, JuniperLea . If I am correct in terms of the thread to which they refer, it really was not true.

But, that thread alone convinced me to take a break from DU, which I intend to begin starting later tonight. It was as ugly as any gang up I have seen from the gungeon or IP forums. I do not tolerate bullying in person and I certainly don't intend to on DU.

12. I was referring to that thread
Edited on Mon Jul-12-10 06:55 PM by Axle_techie
but not that argument... down the list a ways there were people actually condoning and saying some pretty sick things simply because of who it happened to. There are multiple deleted threads were the worst ones were... And it really was true, last night. One even said something like it was done wrong because the person survived, and another said they sympathize with the bomber... both deleted thankfully

Edit to add "So, the life of one or more flawed people are worth more than all those innocent animals suffering? People are flawed, animals are perfect. Animals are innocent, people are not. I do not shed one tear for this despicable person, not one, and I stand by my previous statements" In reference to the oil exec... The others by this guy were deleted

17. I'll take your word for it. I was already disgusted with it...
last night and have no desire to read since it obviously deteriorated even more. Definitely time for a break. Welcome to DU, btw. ;)

6. There are other possible motives.
Insurance, girlfriends, a psychotic rivalry, one ought not assume this was motivated by the mess in the Gulf.

9. Exactly. We have no motive.
If someone was wanting to bomb an oil exec because of the gulf, this one seems to be a dumb target.

James Brock Moore III never worked for BP and seemed to make his fortune drilling on land, not undersea.

10. The OP infers without evidence that the husbands job is relevant.
It might be, or it might not. He could even be the perp.

15. Many other cases involving violent personal attacks on women
HAVE been the husband or a 2nd woman. Famous cases include Mary Jo Buttafuoco, Nicole Brown Simpson, diapered astronaut Lisa Nowak and Robert Blake's late wife, Bonnie Blakely.

Without "oil" in the headline, this story might get more rational responses.

13. I seriously wish I knew.
Violence is not the answer.

I just lost a former classmate to murder. She was stabbed and then burned alive in her car.

16. Agreed
This is not the way to go about this. It is a craven and cowardly act that serves no good purpose and I hope they catch the asshole that did this and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

I do understand the immense frustration over the tragedy in the gulf. A horrible crime against man and nature has been committed and it is my hope that those directly responsible will be brought to justice the right way. If they are not brought to justice, allowed to get away with it... I don't know exactly what I would support at that point, but, not this, no way.

19. Why are we assuming this was some left wing terrorist?
Edited on Tue Jul-13-10 08:37 AM by JoeyT
Or that it was over anything to do with the Gulf? So how often do environmentalist groups bomb people? Especially people completely unrelated to their current cause?

How often do people try and kill one another for reasons unrelated to environmental disasters? This could have been any of a thousand things. Random target, false flag, insurance collection, revenge, business rivals, etc. Is the left not marginalized enough that we have to blame one another for stuff we probably didn't even do?

Of course this makes the people that can understand where the motivation comes from look even sillier. If you don't know who did it, you don't know why and you can't even know their motivation, much less understand it.
