3. IMO an abusive childhood, over-priviliged adulthood, and brain impairment from alcohol abuse.
Maybe even early onset dementia.
(sounds tragically familiar to quite a few "elites")
I feel sorry for him and everyone around him. He is damaged, he is inflicting his damage on others, he needs help.

I love Mark Morford but this one is like shooting fish in a barrel.
