New Website: www.foxisbias.com

Hey folks, a friend of mine has just started a new website. He is going to document the bias at Fox, and try to update it every day. Now all he needs is some hits and for people to bookmark the site and check it once in a while.

1. Tell your friend that bias is a noun.

Fox isn't bias. Fox cannot be "bias." Bias is a noun, meaning fixed ideas based on emotion.

The word he/she wants for this website is "biased." That's the adjective.

foxisbias is meaningless. Fox is biased makes sense. Much better would be: www.foxisbiased.com That URL is taken, though, as you might expect.

Just a suggestion. Another suggestion is proofreading. The site could definitely use some. For example:

"The audio of the Mel Gibson racist insane rant to hiss girlfriend is out, including this from Gibson:"

Is his girlfriend a snake? A cat? That's the first sentence of content on the site. A pity.

3. Fox News HAS ideas based on emotion

Foxbiases.com would be a little more accurate, but I think Foxbias is snappier. It can work.

5. It's a competitive world out there. Quality rises.
This is what I do for a living....website content.

The expectations are high out there. It's important to get things right, or you're just wasting your time.

4. Nouns can be other nouns.
For instance, I can be a nun or a priest. I know saying "Fox is bias" sounds a bit odd, but if Fox is nothing but bias, it could make sense to say it.

7. True, but not in this case.
If I say, for example, "EOTE is bias," that's simply ungrammatical. "EOTE is biased" is not. Bias is not something that can be used that way. It's just not.

It's a very common error, but it's an error, nevertheless. Equivalence requires comparable nouns.

For example, "I am Everyone." is grammatical, since both I and Everyone are examples of human beings.

"Fox is News" is grammatical, if incorrect.

"Fox is Bias" is just damn poor English.

9. It's like saying that Fox is equal to bias. It's called a metaphor.
And it is grammatically correct. Metaphors are not meant to be taken literally.

6. It can be construed as Fox personifies bias (and ain't that the truth).

8. It can, if you really, really stretch it.
However, it's such a common grammatical error that it won't be seen that way by anyone who has reasonable English skills.

I see that misuse all over the internet. "Rush Limbaugh is bias," does not mean the same thing as "Rush Limbaugh is biased." Construe all you want. Grammar counts.

2. "Fox is bias" suggests that the definition of 'bias' should be changed to include Fox News;
Edited on Wed Jul-14-10 10:16 AM by LeftinOH
if the website was called "Fox is biased" it is stating that Fox News' reporting is biased. Which shall it be?
