2. Thank you for giving me the choice between a safe legal abortion and a back alley one.
Appreciate your continuing to work on keeping them safe and legal.

3. Exactly
Your convinctions, whether they come from religious beliefs or not, are yours. And you should be free to act on them, and make your own choices accordingly.

The trick is that everyone else gets to do the same.

that you support human rights. You deserve a special prize. Let us hoist you up on our shoulders and carry you around the town square chanting, "This person minimally 'supports' medical choice and privacy for women! It's a miiiiiiracle! Praise! Praise for that minimal recognition that women deserve quality of life!"

12. I don't see the word 'minimally' anywhere in the OP.
Edited on Sat May-12-07 10:23 PM by Flatulo
Your response seems to me to be a little harsh.

It seems to me that it is not the least bit important what he thinks as long as he recognizes your rights. He need not celebrate them.

Civilized people can disagree, but respect for the law is what keeps us from ripping each other limb from limb.

26. As I read some of the more vitriolic responses here on DU..
... I wonder whatever became of the Left's 'live and let live' attitude that I grew up with.

Really, there is so much anger here that I am shocked on a daily basis.

view on this matter.

I'm curious...are you against all abortions? If so, are you against aborting an embryo caused by rape or incest or to protect the health of the mother should a full-e aterm pregnancy endanger her life?

If you are against the above mentioned reasons, please tell me how you would personally handle each of the situations should they happen to you or a loved one.

I see from your profile that you are a male.

That indeed makes a huge difference.

If your wife or companion became pregnant in the instances above, would you risk your partner's life for a child produced by a violent rape...what other kind is there?? What if your partner has a tubal pregnancy and she was told that she would die, would you not want her to abort? There are many what ifs, but please answer the ones above.

10. My husband agrees with you in part
And confuses many of the local fundies, because when they ask his opinion on abortion, he says, "I'm against it--but my opinion doesn't matter unless I'm the father of the child to be or father of the mother to be. But then all I'd ask is that my advice be taken into consideration."

13. I am against circumcision.
I am against circumcision in all cases including for the health of the male.

I am on the Supreme Court with seven other women and one man. Myself and four of the other women (a majority of the Court) would like to see a case brought before us in order to make our personal views the law of the land.

All five of the women are protestant but religion is not an issue.

We just want to control men's bodies and don't think it matters that none of us have a penis.

14. So, if an all-female SCOTUS were to outlaw abortions in all cases ...
... you'd be fine with that? Yeah. Right. :eyes:

I'm sure the neoconservative right-wing would be both willing and more than able to find enough like-minded females to accomplish that. After all, people are NOT divided on this issue along gender lines. But don't let that stop anyone from banging the drums of gender war.

17. To clear this up, are you saying that Choice of a safe, legal abortion over rides your personal...
religious beliefs? This is how I took your OP and think this is good. Choice over rides religious standing.

25. If you are against abortion and don't support birth control, you are pro-abortion.
If you are against abortion and don't promote safe legal abortion, you are pro=death for women who are seeking an abortion, for either personal or need it for medical reasons.

In the sum total of lives, being against choice means being pro-death, because of teh deaths from illegal backalley abortion, and the failure to operate on ectopic pregnancies or other conditions related to pregnancy which a woman can die from.
