Are we powerless?

Are we utterly powerless to stop a small band of maniacs that are destroying America and the world? Are we truly, finally without any recourse or teeth? Are we merely jellyfish, simply floating along unable to change our environment? Are we just cattle out here grazing and awaiting our slaughter?

Are we, the people powerless to stop the neo cons and their wars of imperialism?

Not only busy with trivial matters, but also just earning enough and feeding your kids. Plus we play the upward mobility career game, which is exactly what people in power want.

We're also just too far away from the centers of power, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Have any wars of imperialism ever been stopped? They eventually end, as all things do, but nothing has ever stopped them from starting. They're built into the system of growth anyway. War will happen as the circle expands, and it has to expand, since if it doesn't it shrinks, which in turn causes the need for more expansion because people will get angry.

Are the people powerless? Yeah, as long as we keep playing this same game. We lose more power every day.

I'll be watching to see how it goes, though I have a hunch most of us here don't believe we're quite as powerless -- when we really consider the question -- as we sometimes feel we are.

That's where I come down on this one.

the rest of the world is passing 'us' bye. If 'we' are too lazy and apathetic to stop them, bankruptcy or the rest of the world will. bullies always lose in the end.

most people here want meaningful change and for the citizenry to take back power, but few understand what it will take to make it happen, and fewer still are willing to take the actions or make the sacrifices that such a would change would cost.

Just fragmented and unfocused. If Gandhi could do what he did...

That's why they got so far so fast--it was and is a Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy.

Now that the wanna-be fascists (otherwise known as the ignorant poor and working class) are falling away from the One True Party because they are going under economically or dying in Iraq and Afghanistan,

and the moral fascists (otherwise known as self-proclaimed Evangelicals) have decided to fold their tents and slip into either environmental crusades or their everlasting fixation on minding other people's business, now that the dirty laundry is hanging out there for all to see,

and the small business people are bankrupt and no longer blinded by the chambers of commerce,

all that's left are the rich and powerful and merciless.

It's gonna take a Revolution to truly flush those jokers out--either a civil one in the Democratic Party, or an uncivil one which will make that little contretemps in 1862 look like a family picnic. that is where we are right now: waiting to see if it's Our Democratic Party, or Somebody Else's.

Or if the Democrats in office are all phonies.
