al-Qaida Says It Has Missing U.S. Troops
Published: 5/13/07, 9:05 AM EDT
By THOMAS WAGNER
BAGHDAD (AP) - Thousands of U.S. soldiers searched Sunday for three Americans who were missing after their patrol came under attack in an explosion that killed four other American soldiers and an Iraqi army translator.

The Islamic State in Iraq, an al-Qaida front group, said it had captured several soldiers in the attack, but offered no proof to back up its claim, posted on an Islamic Web site.

Meanwhile, a suicide truck bomber crashed into the offices of a Kurdish political party, killing at least 32 people, including the police chief, and wounding scores, officials said. It was the second suicide attack in Kurdish areas of the north in four days.

In Baghdad, a parked car exploded near the popular Sadriyah market, killing at least 17 people and wounding 46, police said. The area has been hit by several blasts usually blamed on suspected Sunni insurgents, including a car bombing on April 18 that killed 127 people.

2. I shudder to think what they might be going through...

There are few rules in this engagement, and w/Cheney running around telling people that "torture works", unless these are some remakably enlightened captors, the 3 prisoners, wherever they are, are in grave danger...:(

3. Did Dick "Five Military Deferments" Cheney really say: "torture works" ???
Edited on Sun May-13-07 02:22 PM by SpiralHawk
My god. Do the republicon chickenhawks have no concern whatsoever for our American sons and daughters in uniform?

Only a clod who had never served could say such a stupid hateful thing to endanger our sons and daughters in uniform.

5. A long time ago when there was a huge fight over whether
torture was "effective". The premise was that 500 could be saved by torturing one guy; it is BS, torture never works...all you ever get is what you want to hear...anything to stop the pain...:(

He did once say that torture works and is a vialble option for interogation...x(

9. How digustingly low. Even for a republicon chickenhawk.
Dickie Five Military Deferments Cheney is not fit to peel potatoes for our troops, much less to lead them in a war based on deliberate lies to maximize republicon crony war profits.

How very, very low...

12. He figures he'll never have to face torture, so he's for it...
same as the war, he's not fighting it, so he's for it...he is the epitomy of a stinking Chickenhawk.

I suppose that in WY, he didn't have to think about things like the war, earth, reality...he's some peice of work...:eyes:

13. It's as stupid a statement as Commander AWOL's idiotic taunt: "Bring 'em on."
Only a deserter safe at home and on the golf links would taunt the enemy to attack our American sons and daughers in Uniform. I thought Bush was not just crazy for inviting them to attack our soldiers, but also criminally deranged.

Now Cheney is practically inviting the Iraqis to torture our American sons and daughters in uniform.

Screw you, Dickie Five Military Deferments Cheney...

14. "Bring 'em on"...bush got his wish...he doesn't have to face
IED's, snipers and maniacal warriors...bush is such a coward, he needs at least 2 SS agents when he goes to take a dump...:(

If cheney had any testosterone at all, or bush for that matter, they'd do more than just off and back on a plane in Iraq, they'd walk the streets...I would if I were president, I want a first hand view, not what "yes men" are going to tell me what they think I want to hear...:grr:

4. I fear it's already too late for them. I HATE saying that, but that's the realities
of the Bush/Cheney War for Oil. Don't forget, this is in the same area that those soldiers were captured from last year and tortured. This is also the same area where they raped that 14 year old girl Abeer and then killed her and her family. The locals vowed revenge, and said that those first two soldiers killed were only the beginning.

7. I'm afraid so too...I just keep holding on to hope that there
was some kind of intervention...but the people who took them prisoner are not known for their stirling reputation in this type of scenario...:(

10. "an al-Qaida front group..."
Sure it is...:eyes:

When are they going to give up this stupidity that "al Qaida in Iraq" has any relationship with al Qaida of bin Laden, et. al.?

It really is a ridiculous lie, and we should have done with it.

11. I share your cynicism on this.
Maybe we should start our own propaganda machine and start calling Blackwater an "al-Qaida front group", no?

I already have a plan to send that photo of the dunce doing the devil sign salute beside the queen to some very republicklan newspapers in this christian fundie area that I live in. Let's see how *that* plays out!

remember, this was an al-qaida FRONT group. They'll find a way to link it to Iranian Subversives, if that's what they want to do.

16. Power tools
The insurgents like to use power tools.

I hope Gonzo and his supporters remember that when somebody finds the bodies.

I hope they remember that the missing US soldiers would not have been tortured with drill bits and sabre saws if they hadn't authorized Abu Ghrahib and Gitmo.

And THIS is why you fucking treat people humanely!

17. The US Military should issue cyanide caps to all troops
in the combat zone. The captured will be mutilated and then beheaded. They should have the choice to end their lives quickly.

the way our captured soldiers are treated. We opened Pandora's Box with Abu Ghraib.

20. UPDATE: al-Qaida Claims to Have 3 Missing Troops
"Published: 5/14/07, 12:25 AM EDT
By RAVI NESSMAN
BAGHDAD (AP) - An al-Qaida front group announced Sunday it had captured American soldiers in a deadly attack the day before, as thousands of U.S. troops searched insurgent areas south of Baghdad for their three missing comrades.

The statement came on one of the deadliest days in the country in recent weeks, with at least 124 people killed or found dead. A suicide truck bomb tore through the offices of a Kurdish political party in northern Iraq, killing 50 people, and a car bombing in a crowded Baghdad market killed another 17.

Troops surrounded the town of Youssifiyah and told residents over loudspeakers to stay inside, residents said. They then methodically searched the houses, focusing on possible secret chambers under the floors where the soldiers might be hidden, residents said. The soldiers marked each searched house with a white piece of cloth. {emphasis mine}

Soldiers also searched cars entering and leaving the town, writing "searched" on the side of each vehicle they had inspected. Several people were arrested, witnesses said."
