Can't wait to hear Morning Joe's take on the Sessions/Cornyn disaster with David Gregory today.

MJ always has Gregory on the show. Wonder if good ole Joe will let up on his rant against Obama and the Dems and at least ponder what Sessions and Cornyn were saying, or, really NOT saying, when Gregory asked them repeatedly to be specific about what they would do to cut the budget if they took control of the House or Senate.

They talked in such generalities it was clear they had no idea what they would do. Gregory was exasperated. He tried again and again to get them to specific ONE thing they would do differently from Obama.

When you have the MSM exasperated with you, it's pretty bad news...usually, they give you guys a pass...

They just answered Gregory with generalities, the government must "live within our means" and "make choices" in spending, but when Gregory asked what choices and what living within our means specifically meant, they just repeated more generalities. I've never seen such a disgraceful performance.

Gregory asked if they favored repeal of health care, repeal of the financial regulations and they wouldn't say yes or no. He asked them if they wanted to privatize SS and make Medicare a voucher program and they wouldn't go near that.

The Dems on the panel, Sen. Menendez of NJ and Rep.Chris Van Hollen had a clear field onto which to play. I forget which one of them said that the American people don't want to go back to having pre-existing conditions deny health care, so they were really stressing what it would mean to repeal the health care reform bill.

Bob Menendez had a restrained smile on his face at some of Cornyn's answers. I bet he was near laughing out loud!

and, really, if the republicons want to expand their party's influence, what are they doing with two people from the south (with thick southern accents) being the heads of the senate and congressional campaign committees? It would seem like they'd want to have people who voters see as outside the narrow frame of influence the party has now. It's true: they can't go to any Northern republicans in the Senate because they don't exist outside Gregg, Collins, Snowe, and Brown (who is too inexperienced to fill the role), but Jeebus.

Not that I care, really. The more narrow and parochial the republicons seem, the better for Democrats, but it struck me as one of the dumbest moves imaginable.

The Democrats were in good form and Cornyn actually looked like he was fuming while Van Hollen and Menendez were talking. They didn't look like they were having a good time. :rofl:

Repubs go on and either say nothing (spout generalities) or make tell lies about Dems and they are not called on it.

These tricks have been played out so often they are losing effectiveness. Dying out naturally like a plague.

Democrats always seem to get questioned harder than Democrats and seem to be "held accountable" far more than the Republicans. Today's show was a breath of fresh air. We either had some really good people on today or the Republicans REALLY sucked *ss. Actually, it was probably a little bit of both IMHO. I think that the Republicans are getting a little cocky about November and they don't realize (or care) that if they somehow manage to win big in November, THEY'RE going to have be able to produce results or they're going to be back out on their *sses again in 2012. Of course, they haven't apparently given much thought or consideration as to what they would do for the country if placed in power, well, except for Boehner declaring that there needs to be moratorium on federal regulations and no "lame duck" work and Issa is clearly salivating about *investigating* Obama- but certainly nothing that's going to enhance the quality of life for most Americans. I think that I read somewhere that there is an internal debate going on between Republicans about whether simply ginning up *anger* against President Obama and the Democrats is enough for them to win big in November or if they will actually have to put forth some viable policies of their own. Van Hollen and Menendez did a great job, actually, on putting the REAL GOP *agenda* out there (i.e. repealing health care, vouchers for Medicare, SS privatization) and apparently Cornyn and Sessions didn't exactly embrace it themselves.
