Police: Off-duty cop used Taser on fellow officer

Don’t Tase your bro in blue, bro!

Joshua Wallar, 26, of Methuen was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for using his Taser on Daron Fraser, 39, of Raymond, N.H., cops said.

Wallar, a Kingston, N.H., cop, used his Taser to keep Fraser, a Lawrence cop, from fleeing a fight Tuesday night at 11:45 p.m. with a pregnant woman, according to Haverhill Deputy Police Chief Donald Thompson.

“Waller went a little too far,” Thompson said. “At that point, the woman was no longer in danger.”

Waller has been suspended without pay and ordered to turn in his weapons pending an internal probe and court action, Kingston police said. Fraser was charged with assault and battery and assault on a pregnant woman and released on $500 bail. He was placed on paid leave, Lawrence police said.

1. The volume of cop "misbehavior" continues to grow. I fear there is nothing that can be
done to stop it.

They serve their purpose as enforcers for the powerful.

Only option is to avoid at all costs.

2. I think it's high time we have a forum on DU for police abuses of power.
How many stories a day do we need people?

3. We can always ignore the issue
Leaves more room for us to talk about the real things that affect regular people's lives instead

5. Interesting that it's a "dangerous weapon" when pointed at a cop
Although to be honest, if I saw someone beating on a pregnant woman I'd be tempted to taze him too...

6. Tasers are now "dangerous weapons" when used against (also see my thread link)
Edited on Sun Jul-18-10 05:12 PM by Dawson Leery
police, even if it is done by fellow officers. When the taser and guns as well as OC are used against civilians, these weapons become tools, magically. I see. Hypocrits. :puke:

7. Yep, because the 'cop' culture is a maladjusted hypocritical phenomena
and most of the people who live within that culture are the same way: Violent, maladjusted hypocrites with chips on their shoulder the size of the Great North Woods.

8. It sounds like this use of the tazer was probably justified and the wrong cop was suspended. (nt)

9. Now if he had just tazed a 3rd grade teacher
or an 85 year old bed-ridden woman, he'd be alright. Poor judgement on his part.
