1. Used to smoke
Quit in '85 and I'm proud of it. I preferred smoking marijuana to cigarettes. By a long shot.

2. My father smoked 3.5 to 4 packs per day.
along with the occasional cigar or pipe. I have never liked the smell of tobacco, and since I was the only non-smoker it was impossible to escape.

I would point out that I'm the one with the lung condition.....

17. Lung condition is probably a result of-
your lungs being weak from not having had to survive all the toxins from smoking :sarcasm:

8. Pack a day smoker for 15 years, and quit 2 years ago. Glad I quit.
Did I like it? Yes I did, sometimes. Most of the time, not so much.

9. I chew tobacco (burning it is for barbarians)
But it's a toss-up. I can recognize the nicotine addiction (and I've used patches that do meet it, and I can feel the difference), but it's also just something I've come to associate as "what I do", that's comforting to do and enjoyable.

10. I smoked for nearly 20 years before I gave it up in 1981.
I simply didn't want to be a smoker any more. I wanted very badly to be a nonsmoker and I felt it was very easy...so I guess I wasn't addicted...

At any rate, my strong desire to be a non smoker prevailed and I am happily here before you as such for my almost 20 years easily smoke free. I never had a withdrawal symtom in the whole time. I am not bionic nor am I a martyr, but I just didn't want to be a smoker any more and that desire overcame any "addiction" I had (which I doubt).

11. I smoke and enjoy it. -- I've quit in the past and that's been good.
But when I go to Europe - I can't help it.

I love to sit outside with coffee and smokes and watch the world go by.

I would love to fire one up right now. I liked to smoke. If my doctor told me I had a month to live I would head straight for the store and buy a carton.

14. I truly enjoyed smoking for 30 years
I smoked three packs a day for the last 10.

I quit more than 15 years ago and have always been very grateful not to be an active smoker anymore.

19. I smoked for about 12 years.
I really did like and enjoy it. Towards the end the ashes everywhere really bothered me. My husband quit and I felt bad smoking in front of him so I quit too. I quit cold turkey. Three weeks later I got pregnant and then the smell of tobacco burning made me want to hurl. I didn't have any major withdrawal symptoms. Coffee, now that is hard to quit.

20. I smoke, and I like it.
I've quit a couple of times, to humor others... and when I do I miss it. Withdrawal from quitting sucks, but not smoking sucks worse.

I'm actually quitting again right now. This thread makes me want a cigarette, but I'm trying to humor my wife again... so I guess I'll put it off. Looking forward to an excuse to take a break from humoring her and all the other people that feel like they should have a say in what I do- "for my own good".
:)

Not sad I quit, though, and I like not feeling crappy when I don't have one, and being able to climb stairs.

edited: replaced a freudian slip.

23. Kools, Paul Malls, Benson & Hedges, Camel, Merit.,
Lucky Strike, Virginia Slims, Capri (toothpick smokes) Stuyvesant, But mainly I smoked cowboy killers. (Marlboro reds, and sometimes 100's)

Then I smoked Cloves when I wanted to smell weird.

To me, Merits and Marlboro were the same cigarette. Lucky Strike was just smoke tasting. Winston tasted stale to me. My preferred smoke was Camel but I would trade off between Marlboro when there was a difference in price.

Kools were my occasional Menthol fix.

I liked smoking.
I could do tricks and everything.
I smoked 2 packs a day and could run 2 miles in 12 minutes and 30 seconds flat. (before and after a pt test in the army.)

One day I decided to quit. I carried an open pack and lighter with me for two months without ever lighting up. I guess I was just finished.
